Mullet Man 2,114
They look like they're spot welded in place. Has anyone removed theirs without destruction to the gas tube? Any tips on doing so? What did you discover underneath, a gas tube in good shape or something half covered in the factory finish?

Mullet Man 2,114
I'm talking about the flat sided cover that is attached to the actual gas tube. I believe it is ONLY found on Saiga gas tubes.
1liter 20
I've done it. A little filing and repaint, turned out nice.
Big Boss 21
I just used a screwdriver to knock the spotwelds off and repainted it.
paprotective 362
I pried mine off then cleaned up the spot-weld spots with a dremel.. repainted with the same ENGINE paint I used under the receiver..
Mullet Man 2,114
Thats what i figured but it doesnt hurt to ask about things when it comes to these Russian guns. Who knows, it could have been a fusion bond holding the thing on and to get it off requires a jack hammer and total destruction of the part is the norm. Any of you guys have pics of it removed, using an OE type mounted hand guard? Edited March 16, 2011 by Mullet Man
