bob408ss 0
I searched, but didn't find any posts talking about interference issues with folding stocks and drums. I'm thinking about going with the 8.5" ACE and a push-button folder, but want to know if it would clear a 20rd drum. Maybe adding an extra pad also... I'm 6'4". so the longer the better. Any other suggestions? Maybe the Ace Club Stock? Thanks! Bob K. Anchorage, AK
Scatillac 22
Can't personally speak to this, cuz I don't have a folder installed yet. I would say worst case scenario is that when it's folded it will hit the drum, so when you're carrying it/storing/etc. you won't be able to have the drum in the gun. drifter_r6 0
I have an ACE folder with a 7.5" stock. It will not fold closed with the drum in place.
TheDriver 23
I have an ATI M4 style folder. It will juuuust fold past the MD20 drum with the rubber recoil pad removed and the stock telescoped to the shortest position. I picked this thing up at a surplus shop for $20. lbsrdi 1,078
I have the 8.5" ACE folder and it does not fold all the way with the MD20 in. That's just the way it is. I still love the stock.
Fumes 84
Someone just posted a pic of an ace utra stock that they cut so short it folded behind the drum, but damn it had to have been cut down to 6". Check the pic thread or the gallery.

Shadoh 16
I modified a UBR so that it can twist and then fold all the way with a drum. Its spring loaded so all you do is pull backwards when the stock is open and give it a twist. I had a CTR on it before but I had to loosen the locking nut first to be able to twist it. Heres a pic of the CTR. It looks the same with the UBR its just easier to rotate it.
gunfun 3,931
Very cool mr. shadow. That's the most clever solution I have seen to date. Does it wobble?
GONIF 7
I have been holding off on replaceing my Tapco fixed nato rear stocks now for a couple of months ,after reading this I ordered 2 for my S12's . Hope they work and are solid . If not they will go on some AK's I have . Be interesting to see if they will hold up to the S12 with slugs and buckshot .
StudentDeSaiga 2
I was planning on a folding stock til I found out VA has a stupid "no drum with folder" law But it looks like there isn't a folding stock setup that will work (completely) without being extremely short or having no recoil pad. bob408ss 0
Has anyone tried making a custom length tube for the Ace Ultra-lite stocks that would clear the drum. I'm thinking longer, rather than shorter... Is the Ace Ultra-lite really modular, in that you could get a similar o.d. tube and swap out the parts yourself? I still want folding capability, but would like it to clear the drum as well. Here is the Ace website info: (AR-UL) ACE Ultra Lite Stock The lightest AR stock ever devised! Weighs only 5 oz. This stock uses Ace's original soft foam overtube for the ultimate cheek weld. A billet machined gusset reinforces the receiver extension tube at its weakest point directly behind the receiver. Precision machined aluminum butt clamps directly to the RET and provides a machined in sling mount. Also includes 1/2" buttpad and buffer tube.
africamagical 5
the ultra light butt plate just slips over the end of the buffer tube and clamps down, so if you just make sure you have the other end threaded yeah, you could use any ol tube to attach the butt plate, as long as its the same od.
