patriot 7,197
Isn't it hypocritical that cars, trucks, etc. are REQUIRED to have sound-reduction devices on them, but to do so with a FIREARM requires a $200 "TAX" and special PERMISSION from the federal and state government? Absolutely ridiculous.

Absolutely ridiculous. IIRC in some European nations you are required by local/provincial law to use a suppressor when at the range or hunting. Go figure. Also, in the historical trivia section.... all handguns were going to be put in the 1934 NFA according to initial drafts. However, the FDR admin realized that it would never get past Congress and/or the SCOTUS in that form. Also, the tax was artificially set at $200 as this was the retail price of a 1928 Thompson at that time. Edited March 27, 2011 by 690gr

Nothing mentioned about hearing protection benefits, or lowered noise pollution, etc, etc, etc.
timy 1,185
Politicians/idiots (same difference) aren't very bright, just good excellent pathological liars. Once elected they strangely assume they are on the same mental level as Albert Einstein and thus have no need to actually look at facts when contemplating more useless legislation. They are so smart that whatever they "feel" should happen must be right, so why deal with inconvenient reality? http://www.motorcycl...xt/claybrk.html
