BronCobraJet 80
Saw this on the news (Fox News) the other day, where you can get an app showing dwi and speed checkpoints. It seems as though the police have learned about it, it will be shut down.

It seems as though the police have learned about it, it will be shut down. Nobody can shut them down except the app hosts themselves. Apple caved in and dropped theirs voluntarily, Google didn't. DUI checkpoints are not legal in Washington so it's not an issue for me anyway but I am all in favor of people being able to avoid these unconstitutional checkpoints.
Arik 565
Here my local news paper always prints the dates, times and roads where checkpoints will be held. Edited April 8, 2011 by Arik
uzitiger 193
I saw checkpoints when I lived in California and went around one because I had to get back to work and did not want to waste time in the slow traffic. Anyone who gets caught in one of these checkpoints has to be a total idiot.
Arik 565
Sometimes if they see you atempt to go around they'll pull you over. There are cops hidden up the road a bit to stop those who look like they might be trying to avoid the dui/dwi checkpoint. At least that how it's like in my area
RobRez 1,895
They are trying out"Random stop" checkpoints here. This is when they stop every 4th car at a checkpoint, for all or any violations of the law. The claim of it being a non-discriminating stop of every 4th car, has the uber-liberal populous of Missoula all for it. Not seeing it as the invasion of rights that many others see it as. To me it is no different than fighting internet child porn by searching every 4th house head to toe, and seizing all computers and phones and searching for illegal Child porn. Welcome to 1938 in Germany!!

Welcome to 1938 in Germany!! Apparently some people have convinced themselves that "randomness" makes it all OK. Then tomorrow they will say ...OK, today we are going to pull over any car we want with a license plate that ends in the number 6, and see what we can find.

At least that how it's like in my area I didn't try to go around, I turned on another main street near the road block on Katella Ave. in Los Alamitos, Ca. and took a parallel street. I wasn't drunk but did not want the hassle and ten minute delay.

22_Shooter 1,560
Just checked the Market on my Droid and found one called "Checkpoint Wingman lite". Not sure if it's the same one or not. FWIW, it's based off of user-entered data, so it's only as accurate as the users are.
