MikeMacCham 8
I cant find it either but the consensus was buy a krink kit from rguns and buy a receiver somewhere else. does that add up to $1,000?

It could be done for near a grand if you pick your parts precisely. And daniel is right, some say the twist rate on a krink barrel is different for a reason and has better effect on the bullet than if you were to chop and recrown a saiga barrel. jamesavery22 54
Weak search-fu much? http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=225627197 Any kind of AKS-74U kit availability is a one off. No one will have a regular supply. Some might have multiples but it won't be for long. This is true with any kit part sets. Get used to searching. I'm sure if anyone puckers up enough to decide to buy, by then, the above auction will be gone. As far as converting any Saiga to a AKS74u type config? Yes it's been done before. Someone even made full auto version, illegally... It's chop up remnants was listed on gunbroker for a few days. Main issues(among plenty of others): barrel, FSB/GB, rear hinge block. 8.27" Barrels can and are currently be made. Not spoon feeding that to you. Search for it. The FSB/GB(k-var part# KR-008B) and rear hinge block(k-var part# KR-HB2) are hard to find and if found are very expensive. Call me grumpy but if this kind of info is hard for you to come by don't look into a AKS-74u project. Start with something basic. Back when Arsenal *ur's were available that short cut route wasn't a bad suggestion for most since it's a relatively easy project. Now, you have to have the knowledge of how to build an AK from scratch. Suggesting this kind of project to anyone who's brand new to AK pattern rifles and/or to someone who can't research on his/her own is setting them up for failure. baraban7.62 20
I have worked with aks before just never with AKSU, i have built a full blown AKM outer saiga 7.62 now i want a 5.45 ak, so why not a krink,
rob-cubed 74
The Rguns kits are the way to go. They are pristine, parts-matching Tula. There is a vendor on theAKforum selling US-made krink barrels with the correct twist rate, and another who will cut down and reprofile a virgin 5.45 import barrel (wrong twist rate, but very high quality). Builders have said both barrels both work fine, no noticeable differences in accuracy out of either due to twist rate. The Russians did spec a slightly faster twist rate on the AKSUs to stabilize the bullet out of the shorter barrel. I have yet to put together my kit, still working on getting my skills up to par on cheaper builds. It's such a nice kit I may even pay someone else to do it, gotta get a $200 stamp either way.
