Shouldn't the pistol grip nut be metal?

Recommended Posts

I like AKs too but never enough to bust a nut over.

:bag: Drum roll & cymbal clash.

PG nuts should be made of steel.

Just go buy one from CSS.

You're right I'll just go buy another one....not like an $1127 rifle should have a metal grip nut anyways. Most authentic AK 74M replica my ass.

Arsenal USA :booo:

I'd be giving them a earful on the phone tomorrow, plus emails and posting that pic on multiple websites.

Plastic PG nut? WTF?!?! These ain't no airsoft rifles.

It looks like it's a psuedo metal epoxy type substance (like Quicksteel). It's definitely not metal.

Sounds like just a cheap ass replacement. Did you get this from a dealer? a second hand? or brand new shipped from a supplier. If that makes any sense. I have an SGL21 and It came with a very sturdy nut, maybe some one is taking a cheap route or maybe it got replaced along the way, I dunno. Seems like a fluke or something.

Agree. Where did you get the rifle?

Arsenal SGL21's are meant to be, and are quality builds. Clearly this shouldn't have happened. Arsenal covers manufacturing defects under a limited 1 year warranty. I'd contact them ASAP and have a replacement mailed. I'm sure they'd oblige once they understand the issue,

Hmmm the pictured broken pg nut looks like it's made of "pot metal".

I use K-VAR pg nuts in all my Kalashnikovs, (since they're shaped correctly, unlike the TAPCO part), and I've never had any problems with em after long, hard use.

Granted, I bought them awhile back. Perhaps this is a recent change.

Shaped different? The tapco is just a square that fits in the hole right?

That looks like a metal injection mold (MIM) part. Its a way of making small precision parts cheaper, they are supposed to be as strong as metal but what kind of metal is the question.

If done well the process does fine, even used as extractors on some bolts rifles. Of course if done not so well....

What happened to these Arsenal rifles being made to mil spec? hmmm

Replacing that part is trivial, and the pg nut that K-VAR includes with these has nothing to do with the rest of the rifle.. which is far more mil-spec, (from the factory), than your Cali converted sporter ever will be. ;)

trivial except having to enlarge the pg nut hole

The question is, you pay $1100+ for a rifle and have to replace parts...

What are you talking about? The pg nut hole is the standard size on my SGL(s).. all I have to do is swap out the pg nut K-VAR supplied with a mil-surp one.

As for $1100+.. I paid $505 apiece for mine. ;)

ymmv.

Yours didn't come with an AK100 folder. But I will give you that you caught a pretty sick sale :smoke:

The metal nut I got wouldn't fit in the SGL's hole...had to open it up a bit.

Maybe not, but I picked up a couple of these last year:

ak100stock001.jpg

(2 of the stocks, only 1 Russian booster)

~$505 '09 SGL21 + ~$180 AK-100 stock set + ~$179 labor = ~$864 ;)

Well, I guess either the nut or the hole was slightly out of spec. I can't imagine that you had to take much off the receiver to get a proper fit.

As I said, a minor issue, that only some rifles may have, (none of mine do).
