Converting to a Saiganov

Recommended Posts

Alright guys, I recently purchased a new 21" S308. I have been trying to decide whether I want to convert to a Saiganov or an Evil Black Rifle011.gif I plan on using it for a 50-300 yard rifle at the range and also as a hunting rifle.

I really like the looks of the Saiganov but my real question is whether it would fit me well. I'm about 6'3" so I like a longer LOP. The original stock on the Saiga is almost a little short for me.

I was considering the PRS because it will allow me to customize it.

Anyway I really like the Saiganov looks but I willing to give that up if it will make the rifle function better.

If I do go ahead with the Saiganov, where would I go about getting the parts to build it? Mostly the stock and fore end? I know we have a member here that custom makes furniture for rifles which would be great because I'm not a very good carpenter.

If anyone can give me a hand with these that would be great! Thanks in advance 027.gif

I did the Drag stock on my 308.. the issue came up with scopes.. the Euro use a CHIN-WELD vs. a CHEEK-WELD

the curve will not help.. and the OAL on WARSAW stocks are SHORT..

You need the NATO length stock which is 1" longer..

or the PRS would work also.. :super:

I have since put mine back to a more usable setup..

For ideas, etc you could take a look at Gabe Suarez' version. Do a search here but for sure theres a thread or 2 on his website.

Ive wanted to get the PRS stock for my 308. It's really nice looking with some good features but the adjustable LOP is only a total of 1.5" from what I can tell. Thats just too small a variance for me to drop that amount of $

Cheers,

Harv

Thanks for the responses!

I have made up my mind and now I just have to go about finding all the parts I need to make it happen. That seems like it is going to be the hardest part. I know that I'm going to need the FCG conversion parts, the stock and fore end, POSP, and mags.

I was gonna get my FCG from CSS or maybe Danzig... or maybe Red Star. Oh bother. Is there really any benefit to one FCG over another? Also whats the difference between a single and double stage. I see the furniture as being my biggest stumbling block. It seems like it is just gonna be hard to find something that fits and looks right. Any ideas of where to start?

I would stick with the dinzag modified Fcg for a single stage and a red star for the 2 stage Fcg. I have a dinzag Fcg on mine and it is awesome. Incredibly clean break and light pull weight. There are so many options with regards to AK furniture now you can do pretty much anythIng you want depending on the purpose of use you have in mind. If you want a traditional looking conversion, i would check out KVAR for furniture. If you want function and utility over form, I woulld look at ACE LTD USA for all sorts of options.

I converted my S308 with a DMR type set up in mind and I followed the Gabe Suarez/ Red Jacket model for this. My saiga is probably my second favorite Rifle I own and once i get it back from the smith for the barrel chop/ thread I'll post some pics and specs.
