New Jersey Gun laws

Recommended Posts

trying to plan a trip. Kindof short notice.

basicly I'm pretty sure my rifles are NJ compliant with my pre-ban high cap mags, But what I'm not sure on is my S-12s...

If anyone could give me a link to where to look or break it down quick for me I would apreciate it.

No such thing as a pre-ban mag in NJ, they do not grandfather magazines or firearms. The magazine capacity limit is 15.

no mags over 15 rounds.. period.. no pre-ban exemption I can find on the NJSP and AG sites..

No shotguns with Pistol Grip's with detachable mags over 5-6 (I forget) round capacity AT ALL..

all BRAKES must be PINNED on.. no Flash Hiders AT ALL in NJ.. :cryss:

overall a PITA.. I shoot in NJ mostly so all my Saiga Rifles had to PLAY THE DUMB GAME.. :chris:

hence why Classy K sold his S-12 and I won't buy one at all.

Hope this helps...

okay, so the pre ban mags are out, and PGs are a no-no. what about thumbhole stocks? Will a NY compliant S-12 pass okay?

my rifle muzzle devices are welded on. and I keep sporting capacities for all of my guns, so I might be regulated to 5 or 10 round mags, but I can deal with that.

heh. it reads just as vague as the NY ban. I'm not seeing anything in there that would rule out a thumbhole.

So my S-12s should be okay with thumbhole stocks and 5 round mags, and my rifles should be fine with my 5 and 10 round mags by what I'm reading.

correct?

if you have a converted s12, leave it home. pistol grips on semi auto shot guns will get you 5-9 years in prison. they are considered "assault weapons" even if it has a thumbhole stock ( it is considered a pistol grip by the NJ state police firearms division)

also, if you have pistols, leave them home...no hollow points, no mags that hold over 15 rounbds, no semi auto's with pistol grips or bayonet lugs as they too ate "assault weapons. No m1 carbines, no adjustable stocks or flash hiders(and what is or isn't is up to the police to decide) no pistols over a certain weight ....'

take some constructive advice here. If you don't abosolutely have to bring a gun...don't. Nj does not recognize any state's ccw permit EVER! even if you are a cop, fed or whatever, you risk your freedom on the misinterpretation of an overzealous cop or prosecuter. Our gun laws are so vague that you can get imprisoned if you have a toy gun that does not have the orange tip on it.

also, beware that there is NO safe passage thru any NJ/NY port authority airport, they WILL prosecute any firearm as a felony offense regardless of what the interstate safe passage clause says.

You know that in New Jersey possessing a BB or airsoft pistol is exactly the same as possessing a Glock 17? And yes, people have gone to prison for that. NJ gun laws are vague and arbitrarily enforced. Apparently NJ case law is very odd. You can't just read the law to know what is legal, you actually need to hire a lawyer.

I'd suggest

1) That you not travel there. People should boycott left-wing theocracies like NJ anyhow.

2) If you MUST travel there that you do not bring any firearms of an sort, including airsoft or slingshots, unless you have obtained legal advice from a NJ lawyer that what you intend to bring is legal.

"Firearm or firearms" means any handgun, rifle, shotgun, machine gun, assault firearm, automatic or semi-automatic rifle, or any gun, device or instrument in the nature of a weapon from which may be fired or ejected any solid projectile,

ball, slug, pellet, missile or bullet, or any gas, vapor or other noxious thing, by means of a cartridge or shell or by the action of an explosive or the igniting of flammable or explosive substances. It shall also include, without limitation, any firearm which is in the nature of an air gun, spring gun or pistol or other weapon of a similar nature in which the propelling force is a spring, elastic band, carbon dioxide, compressed or other gas, or vapor, air or compressed air, or is ignited by compressed air, and ejecting a bullet or missile smaller than three-eighths of an inch in diameter, with

sufficient force to injure a person.

yeah I didn't bring any guns.

It wasn't a bad trip though, I got to play around with some of their service weapons, and the next day I checked out where washington crossed the delaware.

All I can say is there is no way you could get me to live in New Jersey. Talk about extremism.

WoW!!

I just read TITLE 13. LAW AND PUBLIC SAFETY CHAPTER 54. FIREARMS AND WEAPONS

I don't feel so bad here in Kalifornia.. I thought our gun laws were on the verge of socialism, but NJ wins that vote. Great info here, my uncle retired from the Secret Service he has a AR SBR and I was telling him how he won't be able to bring it back to Cali when he retires and moves back.. He just so happened to move to a town in NJ.. So I was checking out this thread about legality to let him know (if he didn't know already) I didn't see anything regarding SBRs, yet the set up of your AR must meet certain standards to not be considered an AW according to N.J.A.C. 13:54-1.2 Definitions

Great thread

Interesting. This means that $600 .45cal and .50cal airguns I've been eyeballing is NOT a firearm according to NJ law! How... ironic, since those Sam Yang big bores are about the same power level as a .45acp (200 grain slug at ~700fps for the .45, and a 230gr roundball at ~675fps for the .50!). Three-eighths of an inch is .375, so neener-neener.

My advice: Don't even bring it here, the cops don't know the laws and you'll get different answers for what's legal from every single one.

I was raised in NJ but I would N-E-V-E-R go back. Irrational firearms regulation is just the tip of the iceberg. Stay away; you're not missing anything.

Ok, so....Im confused. I live in NJ. yes, I know laws are harsh here. However, Im looking to buy A new surefire Mag so is it ok to buy 15 round mags or only the ten round for my saiga rifle? I need the USA mag to get my 3 points for the 922r compliance on my conversion... Its seems as long as i dont go over 15 rounds im good? and that I can buy either and be in compliance? One more thing: I have a collapseable butt stock waiting to get pinned so it cannot move and be FIXED, but....The pistol grip Is or is not ok to add as long as I do not have more than 10 foreign parts. as I understand it.

So, basically, if you have a toothpick in your mouth and sneeze real hard, causing said toothpick to poke someone in the face, you could be arrested under their gun laws.

Is NJ populated by sheep from the UK and Oz? It is inconceivable how even semi-intelligent voters let crap like this get passed by their legislators...huh.png
