SBS length Question

Recommended Posts

On a Saiga 12 SBS with a shortened gas system what is the length from the rear of the receiver to the front of the gas block? If different companies do it different lengths please post what yours is and what barrel length. I am thinking of a new project but need to figure this out to see if it would work.

Thanks in advance:

There's no direct answer to this question since making an SBS requires moving the gas block and everyone moves it a different amount.

My SBS technical thread has lots of info on this subject.

Thanks Bob

That definitely helped. Knowing that Tony moves the block back 3.75" for 8" or 10" guns and 2" for 12" I can just measure from the rear of the receiver to the front of the gas block and subtract the desired amount.

Any other builders out there care to chime in as to what you move yours back to?

On mine, I moved the gas system back exactly 3.75 inches. The exposed length of gas tube between the front gas block and the rear sight block where the carrier enters is exactly 2.60 inches. I will post to let folks know how it all functions when the project is complete, with video.

I garnered a wealth of info from Bob's SBS Tech thread to accomplish my SBS build. Thanks Bob for compiling the data and Tony for pioneering the SBS system for the Saiga 12!
