going12220 125
it's for the hardcore in shape shooter, when you per say are breaking the rules if you even take a piece of gum from some one else at a match that's too intense to be fun. (photo doesn't look like a fun day at the range) there was something in the past about using a pistol caliber carbine so you'd only need 2 guns but if there's any distance to the stages that would hose you. good luck to you if you go that route. magsite20 1,664
hey let us know how you go on this, might be neat to try it anyway.
Scott Kenny 144
I guarantee you that a pistol-cal carbine won't cut it at the Ironman. Most of the rifle shots there were 100yards+ (and I think I remember a 200yd plate rack!), but they do some team-work things, like allowing a group of guys to share some weapons. Pistol caiber carbine allows you the option to shoot it at either pistol or rifle targets. You still need a rifle for the long range and a pistol just in case but any rifle targets under 100 yds and almost all pistol targets are easy money with the PCC. If you are a great pistol shooter, then the pistol caiber carbine wont help much (ie a Master class pistoler). Trooper is the openest of open classes. All you gotta do is carry everything.Being in shape helps but you really don't. How far is it between stages? That's as far as you gotta carry the stuff.
Scott Kenny 144
Ironman is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile between stages, with probably another 1/4 mile of flat-out sprint per stage. At least you have two days, so you don't have to lug 1000+ rifle, 500+ pistol, and 500+ shotgun for the whole day... And it's dusty, with very fine, powdery dust that gets everywhere. Buy a camelback (or equivalent), and get the biggest dang water bladder you can! One *very* important thing to remember in your trooper bag is a gun-cleaning kit. There was this guy at this year's Ironman who had his 1100 clog up. Went through his bag, and found out that he'd left his oil back in the hotel... Can't borrow *anything*, so the dude pours half a bottle of Diet Pepsi through the 1100, until the bolt moves again, and shoots the entire rest of the day! I would *assume* that he cleaned the everliving daylights out of the Remington at the hotel that night.

Scott Kenny 144
Wouldn't surprise me if he did, after that stunt. I'm not joking about the dust. It's like talcum powder out there at the Ironman, shit gets everywhere. I remember watching one of the assistant range officers run the course (it's basically THE perk for working the event, shooting it for free)... Kid might be 21, and was in the Army Reserves at the time. He looks at the RSO with the timer and says, "You need to run to the top of the hill as soon as you start that timer. I'll meet you there." Timer goes BEEEEEP, kid starts shooting, and the RSO takes off up the hill to the grounded rifle. The kid clears the pistol half of the stage and passes the guy going up the hill, and almost finishes shooting the rifle half of the stage before the RSO catches back up with him! This is the same kid who rolled his ankle while carrying the dummy between two bays. Goes down in a heap, rolls to his feet (good thing his pistol was empty!), and finishes the stage. He's limping, but he's still moving faster than the RSO is! Yeah, the Ironman is a little bit crazy (OK, a lot crazy). If I can, I will shoot the '13 Ironman, since I won't be able to shoot the '12.
