YARP 300
My guess on caliber is 6.5 Grendel or something along those lines.
TxStrat 5
My guess on caliber is 6.5 Grendel or something along those lines. The 6.5mm 142grn Sierra MatchKing has an incredible BC. I have less wind drift and drop at 1000 yds when I shoot this out of my 260 Remington than a .308 with a 175gr MatchKing.

YOT 3,744
I've never shot anything past 275 yards. Ranges longer than 100 yards are few and far between around here. You get long shots hunting every once in awhile, but even that's rare as most all private property is posted and State land is all forest.
Vultite 57
First of all, I can't believe this show exists and people watch it...I mean, are they really this way or do they dumb it up for the camera?? wtf are they going to do...make a "AK-like" gun that can hit at 1000 yards? I wouldn't be surprised if they "built" a .338 and put some AK like furniture on it and call it a day...impossible with 7.62x39mm....
Deadeye 325
How about taking the saiga 30-06 100 series and necking down to 25-06 with bull barel? Just an idea.
Johnathan T 1
Beautiful rifle Yeoldetool. I saw it when looking through the gallery. Beautiful stock. I've never shot anything past 100 yards with my stock Saiga .223. The closest I've gotten is a 3 inch group of 5 shots with 55 grain Wolf ammo. I'm selling it ( ) so, I guess we'll never know. The good news is, I picked up a Saiga .410. I'm going to find some public or private land, somewhere, and find out how far it can reach, before it becomes ineffective.
Joesmoe 14
It weighs 12.3 pounds with no magazine in it. I test fired it in the bullet trap, but never took it out for accuracy testing. It's been collecting dust in the safe ever since. Tony I'd be happy to take off your hands for you, so you would have extra space in your safe of course lol.
DLT 1,647
Saw the show earlier. It was impressive to see the 1000 yard shot, but really I'm not sure it could still be considered an AK after all the modifications they did. I guess as long as the receiver is still AK, it's an AK. HART1 92
This is the AK that I built a couple of years ago on a milled receiver that has a completely free floated barrel. Nothing and I mean NOTHING is touching that barrel.....though it "appears" the gas tube and hand guard are standard issue. The barrel is hanging cleanly off the receiver. And no....I am not going to share how it was done. Tony Rumore Tromix Hmmm? I'm going to take a couple of guess's, just for shit's and gigles. By no means am I any kind of AK expert. Just having fun. Because of the mag, I'd say it's a .223 or maybe 7.62x39. At least it looks like a Galil mag to me. The gas block is from a Saiga shotgun. Not sure what one, maybe 410. Looks like the gastube has shotgun and rifle gastube welded together. Must be using a shotgun piston. The free floating handguard really messed with me for a little while, but then I thought about the receiver and how I might do it myself. I'd put a support off the front of the receiver. I then figured it out. Besides, I can see the screw in the lower handguard. Very cool stuff! Edited July 21, 2011 by ARMOR

Johnathan T 1
I had a feeling Red Jacket was going to use a Saiga .308. Very nice rifle. But, for $2,800 I can get something a lot more reliable.

I was wondering what they used. I watched it twice and I didn't hear them mention what caliber they were going to use, but I did see the box on the Krieger barrel was marked .30. I couldnt see the caliber on the boxes of Black Hills Ammo they were using either.

I don't think that was a .308 rifle on T.V. The shooter fired 3 rounds to punch through the windshield and hit the target at the end of the show. My German 91 rifle in .308 wouldn't take 3 rounds to do that.
saltydecimator 482
Dunno for sure but I can do a five foot group at five feet with my 12 and an MD20. Of course that would be going for full coverage rather than pinpoint accuracy. Haha at 100 yds with some buckshot I hit a 12" plate with 1 pellet!
Tim A 0
It would have been interesting to actually see what kind of consistency The shooter and rifle were capable of at that range instead of what was only shown on TV. You want to impress me shoot a complete magazine full at a target from a solid bench with a good shooter ,Show the group and let me decide if its suitable for the task. The group he shot at 100yds didn't look that impressive as compared to what you would normally see from the M24 sniper rifle (bolt action) or the M110 SASS if you want to compare it to another semi-automatic sniper rifle. I think the third shot was a "flyer" to the right, but I was hard to tell.
dobravery 49
The mag on the rifle they shot is a .308 so I don't see why it would be anything else. What misled people is that when they are looking at the match barrel on the table, they are lining it up with a 7.62x39 Saiga. It isn't the rifle they use to shoot though.
