IndyArms 10,186
Ok... I had to correct a poor fellow at the range today... he was showing me his "Saiga"... and I looked at it and said "Dude... thats *NOT A SAIGA*"... He was like "well... thats what the dealer told me it was when he sold it to me... see.. it says made in Hungary, and SA2000, SA is for SAIGA". I said "No... thats a Hungarian rifle... it has a dimple at the magwell on the receiver, a Saiga does not... and if you look here... ( at this point I pulled out MY Saiga 7.62X39 to show him...) you can see the difference, as well as it says in big letters right on it... SAIGA..." I admitted it was a VERY fine looking AK variant, ( which indeed it CERTAINLY WAS!) and the finish on it was rather shiny... almost a semigloss... he paid about $400.00 for it.. It had a krink style brake on it, and took some VERY ODD, 10 round, straight mags that slid up into the mag area, and clicked in. Never saw anything like it... Would it even ACCEPT a standard AK magazine at all??? I dont think so, maybe I am wrong...but it sure didnt look like it would... It must have been a ban era rifle, was my only thoughts... I suggested he check out the forums, and maybe it will cause another poor soul to catch the bug that is the desire for all things Saiga... *THEN* I also ran into a SECOND guy about an hour later... who had... OF ALL THINGS... go figure... a 7.62X39 Saiga 16" synthetic. He unzipped the case and I saw gas tube... I looked at it, UNMISTAKEABLE... I said "Hey... you got a Saiga in there, dont you!?!?" he was suprised I knew that from such a quick glimpse... He only shot the rifle from a standing position freehand... needless to say he wasn't trying for groups... but just having a RIOT... and that is after all what its all about!!! I also steered HIM to the forums, too... We might get a COUPLE more noobs here before too long! The more the merrier, of course!!! All in all the range trip today was a BLAST... had some great shooting with quite a few very friendly, and AK/Saiga loving guys!! It's awesome when you can spend a day amidst the company of fellow enthusiasts! HOPE TO SEE YA Gentlemen!!!!
Wolverine 10,360
Sounds like this guy bought himself a SA-2000 rifle. The mags are different and exclusive to the rifle. He won't be slapping in any Saiga or AK-47 mags in that baby. Now for the good news if he hurries he can catch CDNN's sale of the SA-2000M mag for $10 each. The mags look like this:
IndyArms 10,186
Yes indeedy... thems the ones.... and 10 bucks a mag is certainly a decent price, if only for a 10 rounder...
okie shooter 0
The problem with hungarian aks, is I think they still have the milled receivers, so no drumel and drill conversion to high cap parts for him. Those guns were brought in like the WASR-10 low cap guns.
Mbsk01 0
I hate to burst your bubble, but you are wrong. Here is a pic on my converted SA-2000M. Currently one of my favorites. If anyone happens to run across that guy, I have the original magazine for it, that I will sell for $10 shipped.

KySoldier 2
Could that be a similar situation like the WASR-10? Some take single stack mags while others are converted after initial production by another company (Century) to take high caps?

Some take single stack mags while others are converted after initial production by another company (Century) to take high caps? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, Century Arms just put in enough US parts (FCG, etc.) and widens the magazine opening a bit to accept the AK's double stack mag, nothing more. Dunhams still carries both models, the single stack WASR has been selling for $199.
KySoldier 2
Yes I realize that's what Century does, but I'm wondering if these SA200 models are done the same way or if the high cap AK looking model is produced that way from the factory.

I don not know, since I paid to have it done. I do remember him saying that he had to jack w/the trigger guard a bit. Other than that, I think it was just a matter of opening up the magwell.
