Hi everyone. I am new to the forum and have been researching about my saiga 7.62 for a while now. Recently I discovered that my front sight post seems to be turned and is off center. Will it screw in or even come out all together? I would like to turn it back to where it is perfectly parellel with the rifle but it doesn't want to budge. It hardly seems to affect the guns performance but I am a bit of a perfectionist.

Yes, the front sight post will turn, that is how you adjust your elevation so you can shoot where you are aiming. Turn it clockwise to raise your shot groups and counter-clockwise to lower your shot groups. There is a tool in the cleaning kit that came with the rifle that will allow you to do this (looks like a flat bladed screw driver on one end and a small fork on the other end, the small end fits right over the front sight post to turn it left or right). Additionally the drum that the front sight post screws into can be nudged left or right if needed to adjust your windage, i.e., to move your aimed shot groups left or right to get you on target. There is an inexpensive tool that you can buy to make this adjustment, or you can use a hammer and brass punch (get the tool, it is much easier to make windage adjustments). An example of this can be seen here: http://store.carolin...ool-ak47/Detail.

Once you get your rifle sighted in, you will probably find out that your front sight post may not line up perfectly in the front sight housing. I have had to nudge the drum slightly one way or another on all of my Saiga rifles in order to get hits where I am aiming. Some rifles require very little adjustment, some may require a lot, it varies.

Put some shots on paper to see if you are hitting where you are aiming, before you start turning the sight post. Saiga's are not particularly a perfectionist type rifle, rather they are a rugged dependable tool in your tool box/gun cabinet that should give you years of service and enjoyment with very minimal reasonable upkeep. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot!! The only problem is I picked mine up slightly used at a pawnshop so didn't get the screw driver/ wrench accessory. Any thoughts on what to use as a substitute? Also to move the drum the post screws into could I use a C - clamp and a socket or other kind of spacer? Also I know my saiga isn't a super accurate bench gun and I got it for the reason you mentioned. But with that post out of wack my aim isn't as true as it could be, and that is really the ultimate problem.

And thanks again!

No problem, everyone has to start somewhere. The c-clamp and sockets idea should work, just might need more than two hands to keep everything lined up. Sometimes you may need to spray the drum with WD40 or some type of penetrating oil to help it move. A good set of needlenose pliers might work to turn the sight for elevation adjustments. You might check a local gunshop if they sell AK's or Saiga's, they might just have some of the buttstock cleaning kits or the sight tool in stock, neither will be very expensive. Watch the local gunshows, even the smallest ones usually have accessories like that.
