saiga_7.62x39 0
So earlier in the week I got a red dot and mounted it to my saiga 7.62 using a leapers utg mount. Good fit!! Anyway between the height of the mount (in order to clear front sight post) and my m4 style stock when I take my normal shooting position with my cheek on the stock I can't see down the optic. But if I raise my head and not lean on the rifle too much then it is fine. Haven't sighted it in yet but I was wondering, without my cheek on the gun how is my accuracy going to be?? Will this effect anything???
DrThunder88 912
Many modern scopes are set to be parallax-free at 100 yards. This will help to negate errors caused by inconsistent eye position between shots. However, one of the keys to precise shooting is consistency. A solid and repeatable cheek weld is an excellent way of ensuring that the shooter/rifle system remains consistent from shot to shot. Sometimes shooters can get away with a "jaw weld", but it's important to keep in mind that, unlike the jaw and its attendant muscles, the cranium is relatively fixed in its dimensions and proximal relationship with the eye. Mr Mivet 6
SARCO had some el cheapos that stank like fresh plastic and rubber, and just snapped on over the exposed tube, they cost 6 bucks, and they work just fine, I used mine for an M4 with a red dot mounted to the carrrying handle, and it doesn't get much higher than that. But 4 for the same cost as one of the above, and when your dog eats the rubber, you have a spare. Trust me, I know about that scenario.
pjj342 632
Dont be afraid to make something yourself, also. I made my cheekrest out of thick luggage nylon, foam rubber pads, some elastic and strapping. Alot of sewing with my strongest thread and there you go. It works like a dream and I think will hold up a long time. This is with my kvar stock, so this may not apply to yours, but I also did basiclly the samething to my tapco stock by ziptying thick foam rubber over the tube with half of vacuum attatchment underneath, it worked great until I got my new kvar. As you see, I think the cheekweld is very important, even with irons.
