i hadnt heard anything about this, but i looked it up, and apparently some drug cartel in mexico was trying to strong arm a casino, demanding $10,000 a week, but the casino refused to pay, so the cartel members drove up and set fire to the place, killing alot of people. quoted from the article

"He (mexican president ) said Congress needs to take steps to curb an "insatiable" demand for drugs and crack down on the illegal trafficking of weapons across the border into Mexico."

maybe im missing something here...

how is it the United States fault that criminals in mexico committed crimes in mexico?

The pretzel logic comes from Mexico's President Felipe Calderon. He has a masters from liberal cesspool of Harvard.

+1 They probably didn't make their protection payment last week.

I wonder how many, if any, of the guns involved came through "Operation Fast and Furious"?

Congress does have the power to impeach.

We can stop the problems real easily. SHUT DOWN the border. NO ONE crosses without being searched for contriband. And ANYONE crossing illegally, is SHOT. It's really just that easy. Oh ya, and ANYONE found with contriband, is shot. No longer worth the effort.

Or we could just anex Mexico and send in OUR Military, with a "take over" plan. NO MORE "nation building".

well, i dont know enough about this guys leadership skills to say whether i think he deserves to be impeached or not. but i think its a little questionable for him to be pointing the finger like that, especially for something that really has nothing to do with the US in the first place.

Shutting down the border is just one big fucking game as far as politicians are concerned. Baby Bush ignored the Texas border when he was Governor. Rick Perry talks a good line of bullshit, be he hasn't done anything. Now the goof is running for President.

Simple solution. Legalize the drugs, when Pfizer and Walmart take over the industry, people stop shooting each other, the politicians lose their "I will end illegal drugs" stump speeches, local bureaucrats lose the piles of cash they get to ineffectively fight the "War on Drugs" (and the bribes they get from the crooks, or the cash from seizures/protection rackets), and the gangsters lose their source of power and money, the exact same number of people who want to get high will still get high.(There doesn't seem to ba any shortage for those so inclined right now)

Wow... it sounds like the only ones with something to lose are the gangs and the governments.

I would agree to your point but I have one flaw with it. More fucking stoned idiots behind the wheel all over the freeways drifting from lane to lane.

Duh......War on Drugs ring a bell? It's been ongoing since Reagan, and we are still on the losing end of the stick.

i think the guy is just trying to make excuses and alleviate the blame. its not their fault, its our fault..... cause of course that makes so much sense eh?

hmm, seems rather subjective. i think the blame lies on the individuals who carried out the act.

but it seems like regardless of the situation, people are always trying to blame a scapegoat rather than face reality.

I'm torn on this issue. One of the other message boards that I frequent is discussing the ramifications of legalizing drugs. Someone brought up the point that the cartels are entrenched at every level of Mexican society, and instead of simply disappearing, they may focus more on kidnapping, extortion, assassination, etc. to make up for the loss of drug revenue.

It's certainly food for thought, but on the flip side, the end of prohibition had mixed results. Some organized criminals moved on to other illicit activity, while other became politicians.

I think the end of alcohol prohibition is a great example for just that reason... When they can't make money killing people over drugs, they stop the bloodbaths and move to politics. If the Indians open the casinos, the illegal gambling houses die out. In every case, we save money by firing the cops we don't need, and enjoy the taxes we collect.

If you think legalization will increase the number of people driving high, you must believe those who want to get high are being stopped by the prohibition... but we know that's not the case. I don't care if it's weed, coke, smack, crystal, oxy, vicodins, paint huffing, gasoline sniffing, or acid and magic mushrooms.... if you want to get high, it is readily available RIGHT NOW. There is no shortage.

So once we admit all we are doing is making gangsters rich, and encouraging the bloodbath, why would we continue?
