smartbomb 133
my 13y/o was watching 3 gun nation with me. he asked. "dad..can i do that?" i told him he could do whatever he sets his mind to, but couldnt directly answer his question. started looking around at youth matches and 1) there is not a whole hell of a lot around here and 2) nothing to do with 3 gun. he, my 16 y/o and i hit the range twice - 3 times a month, depending on how well they get shit done around the house and school. they both can shoot well. i have assembled him a shooting package that consist of: my 1911 with a kimber 22 upper my ruger 10/22 with archangel body and bulding a saiga 410 right now. i have a bunch of 1/8" aluminum plate that i am cutting into 10" squares for a plate rack, and some 18x24" "torso's". my plan is to take this stuff to the range and set up a mini 3 gun course for both of them to practice. any advice? smartbomb 133
no kidding! thanks for the link. i need to get something in 9mm. my thinking was getting him ingrained with the 1911 and the 10/22 both are mechanically similar to the large bore variants, so he could build muscle memory. topmaul 42
I think the thing to do is to look around for USPSA and IDPA pistol matches, the pistol is the hardest weapon to master it's good to get alot of practice with it then move up to the rifle and shotgun. Good Luck I would suggest building a Saiga 20 guage for a young shooter. John Edited September 5, 2011 by topmaul
Ronswin 26
Daniel Horner was about 16 years old or so when he started placing in the top ten of most matches he entered. We need to encourage younger shooters as much as possible and coach them into better shooting habits. The more they succeed at hitting targets the more they will want to compete. 20nickels 21
I've seen a few teenagers shoot USPSA pistol. One at the local club got sent to Vegas for a youth only shoot.
