MAGPUL Stocks for Saiga 223?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've had my converted Saiga 223 for a couple months now and am wanting to add a different stock. I currently have a tapco AK stock on it but I really like the stocks MAGPUL is currently putting out.

Does anyone know if you can install MAGPUL stocks on a Saiga without any issues or modifications? I am mainly interested in the UDR and PRS model stocks. On the MAGPUL website it says they are made for AR rifles and I emailed MAGPUL but havent heard back.

Here are the links of the 2 stocks I really would like, but I just dont know if they will fit easily enough. Any advice or answers would be greatly appreciated!

UBR is a heavy duty bitch and has the tube asm included, you're still going to need an adapter to mount the tube up to the gun-figure about $300. I've never had a PRS, looks a bit big for a .223? For a bit more than $125 you could get a MOE, tube, adapter, and receiver block or MOE and a CAA all in one tube set up that fits the .223 set up well. No matter what you do it's going to be a lot nicer than the current Tapco.

Both the PRS and UBR use an A2-style tube rather than a collapsible stock tube, though I think the UBR's is a bit shorter than the standard tube. As 6500rpm says, you will need some sort of adapter to get the necessary tube to install on your rifle.

I use an aluminum CAA tube with a Magpul MOE on my .223 Saiga. It's not a particularly elaborate setup, but it seems both rugged and functional.

In order to mount the UBR or PRS, you'd need to mount an Internal Block and a Pigtail Adapter.

Internal Block, http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-372/Saiga-AK47-Internal-Stock/Detail

Or do a Folder with this on a Internal Block, http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-254/ACE-Saiga-folding-AR15/Detail

But both those stocks are way too heavy to use as folders.

I DO NOT recommend the PRS for a lil'ol Saiga .223, its just too dagblasted heavy. Perhaps on a 21"or longer barrel, that would balance it out.

The UBR is heavy, better on a slightly heavier/longer barreled rifle, but do'able on the S.223.

I would suggest Magpul's CTR or MOE stocks. The CTR is going to be more expensive but has more options and features. If you get the Tapco ("made in America") AR-15 MILSPEC buffer tube from CSS, a MILSPEC MOE stock will fit nice and snug, and a CTR will feel like it is a solid piece (if you think the money is worth it).

Also, with the cheek risers, we can get a better cheek weld on higher optics.

Magpul MOE on CAA tube

The CTR is over rated and over priced for its questionable friction lock, just my $0.02.
