Can I make my Saiga an underfolder?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to put a folding stock on my Ak. I see alot of kits for sale that sell "everything needed to convert a stamped reciever to an underfolder". I have never seen an underfolder Saiga. I am kinda new to Ak's despite tons of Ar experience. Any help would be appreciated.

As you can see here: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showto...&hl=underfolder it can be done this was done on a .410 but I dont think its much different for an x39. I believe its a lot of work but it can be done.

If your metalworking skills, riviting, drilling, accuratly filing, ect are up to it, the Yugo underfolder from Centerfire will work. See the .410 thread for pictures of the one that I did for my wife. If your skills are not up to it, buy the Yugo and have one of the AK converters do the work.

One more thing. Make sure you are not violating any State or local laws by using the folding stock. I live in Michigan. The State regulates firearm length including and specially for weapons with folding stocks. A Saiga 7.62 is not quite the required 26" from the rear of the receiver to the tip of the barrel as is required on a folder. The answer is to either use a muzzle device or an Ace external adaptor that adds 1.55 inches. Even then the rifle is classified as a pistol (since it is not 31" long) and must be registered as such which is a process beyond the check done when buying the rifle. Anything less than 26'' is classified as an illegal short barreled rifle and a felony. A pistol must be safety inspected, registered, and a CCW issued to transport it. In short they make it a restrictive hassle intentionally. Rifles must be 31" to be legal here. Other states have few restrictions. Check out the legal section on this forum and your state's web site. You might find your State Attorney General has written some binding restrictive interpretations of your States gun laws as well.

Hey! He finally finished his wifes underfolder 410 build! I remember when that was in the planning stages about a year ago. Nice job man! It looks very clean and neat. My hat is off to you! :super:

Hey Wolvie, Sorry to hear that you live in Michigan man. In Pennsylvania if you speak clear English, you are issued a rifle apon PA citizenship and strongly urged to begin a small stockpile of arms and ammo. Handguns are issued to those over the age of 30 in addition to thier complementary rifle, and thoes particular citizens are urged to carry and use them as frequently as possible.

:haha:

Yeah, it's enough to make me want to relocate. But like everybody else there is the issue of family roots.

Hey - no matter what your family, you stand a good chance of some of them being from Pennsylvania.

Free guns, huh?  Only have one such thing, a single shot shotgun which was donated to me for scientific use by a well meaning liberal who didn't want it in their house anymore.

and i bet that single shot thanked you
