VEPR .308

Recommended Posts

Gents,

First off a little about myself, I am 23 yrs old and served 4 years in the Marine Corps as a 0311 with 2 tours under my belt.

I have a couple questions about my VEPR .308.

I traded for this rifle when I was about 16. I won a S&W .45 through a drawing and had to pick it up at a gun show. Since I was not 21 at the time it was illegal for me to own it. In short I swapped for the VEPR.

I know very little about this rifle. In fact I have probably only put about a box of rounds through it since I owned it. That was 5 years ago!!

I need to know where I can order replacement parts for this rifle. Currently the buttstock is loose and the screw hole to tighten it is jacked up and it will not stay tight.

I have googled the piss out of it and yet to come up with anything other than robarms which their website is under construction.

A little about the gun, It has the removable scope mount, the pistol grip thumb through stock and has a retractable bi pod on the front. It is in really nice shape except for the idiot that painted urban camo on the damn thing which I have since then removed and had it resurfaced.

So anything you can tell me about this rifle would be nice, or point me to any websites I have yet to discover in my hour of looking.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to S12.com!

Pics?

Which Vepr? Super? One piece or two piece stock set, wood or polymer?

Parts... G'luck wid'dat.

You could try putting RPK furniture on it, after all, it is built on a RPK receiver.

If you want to keep your existing furniture (and don't have a super Vepr), you could go to your local hardware store and buy a threaded insert and a bolt that fits it.

One of these:

Make sure you can thread the insert into the stock without breaking it. Otherwise, drill it out a little. Thread it in. Maybe use some epoxy to lock the insert in there. Maybe use some loctite to lock the bolt into the insert.

That's what I did to mount my beryl rail's quick detach. It's held up great for me. That way, if you need to take the stock off later, you have metal on metal vs. metal on wood (and you won't leave a big loose hole with your screw).

The options for stocks are limited right now. Personally I'd fix the stock with the threaded insert, as the factory stocks are kinda cool.

I have an adapter that should be out by years end. Which will open the options up a little. It does not require the tang to be cut off. Or any holes to be drilled into the rifle. I know it does not exactly help you now, but it will be out fairly soon.

We do have magazines available for the rifle. $36 for a ten round, and $45 for a twenty round. The ribbed body mags are $50 for a twenty round, but I do feel they are worth it.

Well here is the thing. I am not sure if it is a super or not. It is a one piece wood stock. I currently have it locked up in my grandfathers gun case. I need to go get it from him, as soon as I do I will post pics. I didnt know it was an RPK receiver. So you are saying I can order mods for it and they should work?

One piece stock is sounding like a Super Vepr to me

Does it like this, http://www.molot.biz.../vepr-super.php or this, http://www.molot.biz...vepr-pioner.php or this, http://www.a-izquierdo.es/rifle-molot-vepr-hunter-3006-semiauto-pi-5451.html

Lets see a pic when ya get the chance, and see what is on the receiver.

Yes, the Veprs are built on RPK receivers and most furniture should fit with minimal fitting.

But if its a Super, you WANT the original furniture!

As you were its not a one piece... I saw what yall meant by one piece in the pictures. Could you kindly explain the difference if there is one? besides the obvious one piece.

it looks like the top one minus the bipod mine has.

  • 8 months later...

thats the standard .308, not the super, the super has wood from the Butt all the way to the forearm, if it were not for the thumb-hole grip it would almost look like a standard hunting rifle.

anyways as far as parts there is no standard supplier, you will have to get a bit creative, or wait for more aftermarket suppliers to get on board.
