i did my conversion and put in the tapco fcg, pg and gas piston (which are all great) and just tried it out this week. well i must have bashed up the ends of the pins prety good or some thing. they stayed in fine untill i fired it. i got about 100 rounds through, and the one for the trigger came loose and it shot off 4 or 5 rounds in automatic. i could feel the trigger was not on right so i put the safety on and took out the mag and fiddled with the pin to put it back in. then it went off again, and smashed up my safety (it was easily bent back and looks as good as new)! fortunatly it was pointed down range the whole time. needless to say i wont be shooting anymore untill i get new pins. as a side note, i was getting sub 2 moa with brown bear soft points and iron sights at 100 yards! love the converted rifel except for the pin incident which scared the shit out of me!

any elce have this happen? the pins felt tight in the work shop but i guess the shock from firing it loosened them. id highly recomend getting new pins for a conversion after this experience.

I presume you are referring to the TWO pins that the trigger and hammer pivot on, YES???

Ok... sooo...Umm.... WHAT did you USE TO SECURE the pins *AFTER* your conversion????

You REMOVED the "shepherds crook" hook that originally held them in place when you took it all apart... :cryss:

Did you put the "shepherds crook" BACK IN?

Did you use "E clips"??

Did you use a "shepherds crook" Replacement plate?

If you DID NOT SECURE THE PINS after your conversion.... BIG OOPSIE!!! :bag:

You probably do not need to replace them... just SECURE THEM!!!!!

:smoke:

I'm glad no one got hurt. I bet that did catch you off guard. One squeeze and four or five unexpected rounds. Yikes.

I've done several conversions now and always use the retainer device sold by Blackjacks and others. Once the pins are all the way in installing one is a snap. Likewise the take down process is easy. Well worth the $11 or $12 asking price.

Dont know if this helps ya at all, but I replaced the original retainer spring and put a little spot weld on the ends where I drilled them out.

I grounded the welds smooth afterwards.

The trigger pins that get drilled out for the conversion are just barely long enough to go through both sides of the reciever. This worried me a little bit so thats why I welded them in place as an added safety measure.

Im glad you didnt get hurt. Thank you for the range report!
