MikeMacCham 8
Anyone ever try this? looks pretty sweet, and a little dangerous at the same time.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=harXmAegGgs They file down 1/16" on a FMJ and get more blunt force. shades_of_grey 1,092
Seems pretty pointless, (if you want more "blunt force" get soft point or JHP rounds rather than FMJ's), but the worst that'd likely occur are some feeding jams. This mod could be put in the same category as 12-ga "cut shells".. a way to make ammunition not meant for hunting more effective in that role.
BpS12 512
That's kinda funny as I've noticed alot of the FMJs I've bought seem to be slightly blunted already rather than pointy. So why bother?

I have not done this personally but have read that if the base is open and the front is made open by filing the tip off the lead core can slip through leaving the jacket behind. A safer method might be to file off a bullet with a jacketed base such as a softpoint would have. The blunt face will not be good for positive feeding from a magazine and would probably require hand loading. The easier way to increase terminal performance and still have perfect feeding is to use Hornady SST loaded ammo.
Salmonking 149
I've got a buddy who once told me that soldiers in the Gulags would notch a cross into the tips of their 5.45x39 bullets to aid in fragmentation of the rounds. I guess this is a similar approach.
