reaper17 1
Ok, with all of this internet stuff going on, I have never actually heard anyone pronounce the word SAIGA. -is it like sega? (like the gaming console from the early 90s) -is it like sigh-ga? -is it like saga? Please don't reply if you are not sure. I do not want to sound like an idiot at the gun store. thanks
haugpatr 972
Legit question, but very funny! I would try "say-guh", welcome to the forum
ChileRelleno 7,071
sai·ga [sahy-guh] Often mispronounced as Sega, as in omega, ssss-A-guh. It is not an A sound, but an I sound... ssss-eye-guh. Your Sigh-ga is correct. Edited November 12, 2011 by ChileRelleno
haugpatr 972
I was basing my interpretation from watching Izhmash videos of the Russian dude saying it, I think we are saying something similar, lost in the translation I guess Good fore-thought by the OP to not be way off, good question! ultimatetaba 1
Interesting topic I pronounced it sigh-guh. That is...up until I spoke with my FFL and notified him that I was having a "sigh-guh" shipped to him. He was like..."Oh, you mean a SIGH-GUH??" I replied, "Oh, yeah...a sigh-guh" lol. Ever since then, I've been calling it "sigh-guh." Still don't know which is correct On YouTube, I hear a lot of both. Same kind of goes for Fiocchi ammo. I always pronounced it "Fee-otch-ee," until someone said "Oh, you mean Fee-oh-key."
RED333 1,025
Donkey, monkey, tomato, potato, it is all about where you are from. As long as you put 12, 20, 410, 308, 223, 7.63x39, 7.62x5, after it when you say it, most will know what you are talking about. sai·ga [sahy-guh] from one of them on line sites.
JaredC 23
Haha....I too have been wondering the same thing. Ive been saying it like Sega and everytime I mention it I want to play Sonic the Hedgehog.
bikermutt07 10
I say Sega. I'm pretty sure the Russians don't pronounce Russia like we do either. No worries.
poolingmyignorance 2,191
I just like when I say Sigh-ug, and some local boy will try to correct me. "You mean a Sega?" ..no. Sigh-uh.
go4tze 17
I'd always figured it was sigh-guh til I started watching Sons of Guns, figured if say-guh was good enough for Will it worked for me

Bigtwin 219
Well this is the best I can say it is pronounced....for what it is worth! http://translate.goo.../#auto|ru|saiga Push the play button in the right box to hear it. Also the spelling translation is just as it apears on my rifle! Edited December 22, 2011 by Bigtwin
