Razr 23
Is it legal to remove safety switch from a handgun that came with it? Will it shoot without it or I need to do some modifications? I have M&P40 compact.
CPE1704TKS 24
Best to form an answer to a judge on why you altered your firearm to remove a manufacturer installed safety device. Hope it's a good one.
magsite20 1,664
While it’s not illegal to remove the safety you can run into legal issues by this action plus void any warranty the gun may have. As stated above if for any reason in the future you and that gun are in front of a judge even if it was a very justified use of the gun there will be a question about did the lack of a safety contribute to the shooting. I’m not familiar with the gun design you’re talking about. The only safeties I’ve ever removed were the block on the Hi-Power that won’t let you lower the trigger / fire the gun without a mag in the gun and the Swartz safety used by Colt 80 series and the Kimber II guns. My 1st guess is it’s a bad ideal, but it’s yours so be prepared for what ever problems with the operation of the gun or law that may come. Just out of curiosity what do you hope to gain removing the safety? Edited November 15, 2011 by 20-Mags
Arik 565
M&Ps come in 3the flavors. 1. 1911 type safety 2. Mag disconnect safety 3. No safety I have 2 M&Ps neither has any type of safety. Why not just buy one without the safeties?
