Carey 0
I have a few thousand rounds through my S12 and am wondering what parts are prone to fail? I shoot open class and have for a few years now. I have a tackle box full of spare parts I bring to the matches with just in case.....but I dont have one spare part in there for my saiga. So that brings me to my question, what do you big time saiga shooters keep in your spare parts bag? Thanks Carey
Shandlanos 1,470
Extra mags, because they are available. Very little else is available. With the rare exception, if something fails, it's catastrophic - for example, I broke the bolt carrier on my SBS... Common parts I've seen fail can usually be avoided - if you use an aftermarket gas puck, some are better than factory, some (twister puck - STAY AWAY!) become mushroomed with use and can become stuck inside the gas system - again, you're sorta fucked without professional help. I've only ever seen one gas puck actually break, and that was a factory puck that developed a hairline crack. I guess FCG parts are simple enough to keep spares for, although they're unlikely to fail, only slowly wear out. A spare firing pin is good to have, and I believe Tony of Tromix makes them. I've only ever heard of one broken extractor, and I have no idea how that problem was resolved. I've never seen a spare extractor by itself, only the rare-as-hens-teeth complete bolt carrier groups arsenal brought in for a little while.

Doug Hartley 526
I often bring my extra R&R Open Saiga when I drive. When I fly to a match I only bring cleaning equipment and an extra battery for the dot sight. I've never had to use the back up Saiga, but I did lend it to Matt Burkett at Ironman 2 years ago when he broke his Benelli. Doug
geepelton 105
I wish I had a spare R&R Saiga.
Sergii 142
I always take with me to competitions full set of spare parts. That can break down anytime and anywhere, it is impossible to predict. Here, for example, some minor damage my shotgun and my friends: http://sergii-guns-ru.livejournal.com/74873.html http://sergii-guns-ru.livejournal.com/76770.html That's a serious breakdown: http://sergii-guns-ru.livejournal.com/64516.html But the overall wear a shotgun after 20000 shots: http://sergii-guns-ru.livejournal.com/71675.html

Thnx The only ones I've either used personally or seen used personally are the e-tac twister puck (this was the one that mushroomed and became stuck), the factory puck, the king armory puck, and the tapco puck. I've never had any issues with the factory puck, and have only replaced it for compliance purposes (replaced the puck and muzzle device on my unconverted guns for 100% legal use with US high-cap magazines). I've had a king armory puck riding around in one of my unconverted guns for a few years - although I've only fired it once since I got my SBS, it's always worked fine. A friend uses a tapco puck in his converted gun, and it has similarly had no issues that correlate to the puck. Edited December 12, 2011 by Shandlanos
topmaul 42
I bring a few tools and spare batteries that I keep on the gun. I've never had a problem with mine that a good cleaning did not fix.
geepelton 105
The only thing I bring for my S-12 is a reduced power recoil spring, never needed it but these guns can be finicky and it could come in handy.
MLM0358 107
Extra E clips for the axis pins. I use these rather than the shepherd's crook or axis pin retaining plate. Magnetic tip flat head screw driver for removal and installation of E clips. Extra axis pin Extra low recoil spring Extra trigger group including disconnector spring and hammer spring (I broke one Red Star Arms adjustable trigger and a friend had a hammer break on a Tapco G2) Extra metric M5 Button head cap screw for holding on the handguard Bag of extra small SAE screws for all my modifications to the gun (e.g 6-40 socket head cap screws for the magwell, etc) Extra socket head cap screw, spring and ball detent for the R and R Targets AR style safety. Extra battery for optic Extra mags. Set of SAE and metric allen wrenches Not as bulky as it sounds, except for mags it all fits in a small pouch.
