IffenWhen 0
After the conversion to PG, how many converted/trimmed/shaved/cutdown the spring loaded mag latch? I trimmed the latch tab on several AK mags to fit in the Saiga but it seems easier to just trim the mag latch itself. I want to hear other points of view on this.....trim the latch tab or the latch...which is better and why....
SaigaShooter 0
I trimmed the latch. It's faster and easier than doing mags individually, and more convenient if you want to borrow a mag.
vjor 2
Well, since using common cense is a little out of style in America these days, I will say doing the latch on the gun is the way to go, like that you can use any AK47 mags on the market, any were any place, no need to work on mags, can barrow Joe mags on the range no problemos, and if you look in the files on the saiga weapons general discussion you will find a little post on how to and size or ramp and how to make it work for ak and saiga mags( I mean latch and ramp). Wolverine 10,360
The 7.62 that I posted in the photo section has a bullet guide and trimmed latch. As the others said that way it is 100% compatible with AK 47 mags ranging from 5 rounds to 30. The key is to go slow when trimming. File and fit try until you have it so it snaps in freely but holds the mag tight. I used a hand file rather than a dremel to control the amount of metal I removed before the next fit trial. I do have other Saigas in 7.62 that are not converted. But I have Saiga high caps too which are pretty tough to find since EAA imported a very limited number for a short period of time. I believe Russian Military can still get the 30 round Saiga mags in 7.62 and ship them from the UK to you but they will be relatively expensive. I would recommend the mods that make you compatible with the more universal AK mags. You can buy three nice Bulgarian mags for what you will pay for one Saiga mag and all you have to invest is a piece of pipe, a screw, and your labor. Wolverine
