Neither side has a monopoly on the truth. There are certainly kids who went to school got a stupid degree and are now overwhelmed in debt with a degree they can't use and they are looking for someone to blame. In American we have some myths that are often counter productive;

Myth-If you just do what love with passion, you can make a living at it and support yourself.

This of course is not true. Going to a job is "work." It's not just happy fun finding yourself time.

But here's another one:

Myth-Rich people are hard working and poor people are not.

There are plenty of Paris Hiltons who are rich, don't work and will never work. There are also the "working poor" who work multipule jobs to pay the bills. Sure there are people who work the system on both sides, but you can't say one side is perfect and the other side is evil.

Just because some people are rich, and may or may not have worked hard for it,

it doesn't entitle poor people, hard working or not, to one single penny of it.

The USA is capitalist, not socialist.

Unfortunately both you and Dudethebagman are correct.

With the (oftentimes un-Constitutional) laws that our Constitutional Republic has allowed, poor people are entitled to receive the money that others pay in taxes.

There are numerous voters and representatives that feel that someone shouldn't have to contribute at all to the production and advancement of our society and our economy but that they still deserve to have a free car, house, food, phone, electric and cable TV.

Maybe I'm just waxing nostalgic about the girls from my art school days in the late 70's . If my memory serves me, many of them had smokin' bodies.red_heart.gif018.gif

Am I the only one here who thinks this girl is kinda cute?

Unequivocally, yes you are.

Not entirely :] needs to wash her damn hair though

She kind of resembles Daniel Radcliffe. Maybe it's just the glasses.

I disagree with what the dude said. My remark, which points to an economic classification, is irrelevant of the government itself.

If you wish to have a discussion on that topic, sure, we can do that, but that was not my point.

The US has been, through tradition and law, a capitalist nation. Socialism has been introduced much more recently, since about the

50s/60s.

Yeah have you ever seen on TV where they cut someone's dreads off and all that dirt and shirt comes tumbling out?

We can protest the cutting of Dreads due to it is destroying Prime Lice Habitat!!!

edit: around here we call these folks "Trustifarians" as most of them are living off of a trust fund from wealthy family, and pretending to be broke, mooching smokes and beers, then driving a range rover.

There was a guy in the local tattoo shop that had big thick dreads. He started splitting them outside and every time he pull you could see the shit coming out of them. It was pretty nasty. LOL!

That's fine. You're right that the US has traditionally claimed to be more or less capitalist. I was just saying that it isn't written in stone that we are. Laws can be replaced with new laws. We're theoretically masters of our own destiny. There's nothing in the Constitution stopping us from becoming libertarian or socialist.

But, (IMO), the reality of the situation is that we have a political/economic system of institutionalized bribery, pork, and subsidies. The capitalist ideology they sell you is to keep you working hard so they can divert your tax money to the campaign donors they rely upon to fund their reelection campaigns. The show is run by lobbyists behind closed doors. Politicians just have to keep enough of an air of legitimacy to keep the population from revolting (this is done through pork, infrastructure, and social spending). It's not a liberal/conservative thing, it's a power/control thing. IMO.
