wtjosaas 72
Sorry, not a very good picture. It seems to be almost loose enough to spin off.
WhiskeyMinion 300
Push the retaining pin in and turn it clockwise
vulcan16 971
A small hack saw or dremmel to cut the weld.
wtjosaas 72
it's not welded but looks to be notched in a spot to keep it from threading off.
NM0 586
Try doing another pic? Your camera focused on the background. Recently cut the spot weld on my draco thread protector. Looked like a dimpled grove but was a small weld. The dremel quickly took care of it. You do have to push the retaining pin in like WhiskyMinion mentioned. It shouldn't be a left-hand thread though. wagdog 0
Did you get the thread protector off?
wtjosaas 72
I haven't had time to do much with it yet. Been working too many hours( which is a good thing). I did get my conversion parts today though!!
wagdog 0
Nice. Can't wait to see it!
ben4345 123
Did you get the thread protector off? So? Perhaps it is shipped with some red thread locker? Edited January 21, 2012 by ben4345
wtjosaas 72
It's fairly loose. Just a couple crimps holding it from threading off.
wagdog 0
Mine has 4 small welds holding it on. I'm worried about damaging the threads. Should I try to grind the welds down flatter or just cut through them?
wtjosaas 72
GOT IT!!! The back edge was crimped all the way around so I used a vise grip to hold it from spinning and used a cutoff wheel to grind the back egde enough to get it loose. Here is how it looks so far. I still need my nondefective trigger to show up so I can get it back together.
NM0 586
It's coming together well, looks great. Good job with the thread protector. Do like how the FSB and GB are pinned versus dimpled.
supertex 242
who is selling saiga 5.45 with welded thread protector?
vulcan16 971
who is selling saiga 5.45 with welded thread protector? Atlantichttp://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct1076.aspx
wtjosaas 72
I got mine from Atlantic but the protector was not welded, just crimped on.
wagdog 0
I got mine from atlantic as well but mine has 4 small tack welds holding the protector on. Question for.those reading this thread. Is that little retaining pin necessary after you remove the thread protector and install a brake? I removed that pin and spring and then realized I couldnt.get it back on because my thread protector is still on.
wtjosaas 72
That pin is what locks your muzzle brake on.
wagdog 0
That makes sense. I kept the parts just in case and now I am glad I did. So you don't weld or locktite the brake on?
wtjosaas 72
nope
DisThunder82 2
I threaded my barrel, since I wasn't one of you lucky dogs that ordered the non neutered one from atlantic. It wasn't terrible, but I did put some loctite on my muzzle break to permanently mate it to the thread adapter. So far so good, though. Couple hundred rounds (did some more shooting today) and it hasn't loosened. It would've been nice to have the authentic FSB already threaded, but you make do with what you get... wtjosaas 72
I got mine off Gunbroker. It's Bulgarian, 24mm threads.
