timy 1,185
From what I've seen 20 gauges in general seem to be going the way of 16s. I get some of my 12 gauge ammo at a local Theisens and was going to pick up some 20 for a friend. Their selection was very limited and when I asked about it, the sales clerk replied "We just don't sell enough of it to stock a good selection."
DrThunder88 912
I imagine the low recoil 12 gauge ammo out there is a big factor in reducing the popularity of 20 gauge as well. It's a shame though. With the exception of buckshot, which seems to be limited to #3 or #4 in commercial rounds, 20 gauges seem to have a pretty diverse repertoire. Yeah, but the problem with Saigas is that they're just as big as 12s. That wasn't/isn't the case with a lot of other 20s. Being produced in a smaller, lighter package has an advantage for smaller people.
Brad737 4
I'd like to convert a Saiga 20 for my fiance. Hell, its hard enough just finding the gun in stock, let alone cool parts.
kresk 10,063
Seems as though the 20's have had more cycling problems than the other shotguns and maybe that is one of the contributing reasons for lack of accessory parts..

schultze13 354
I'd like to convert a Saiga 20 for my fiance. Hell, its hard enough just finding the gun in stock, let alone cool parts. Take my advice get her a .410. I bought my wife a 20 ga I had 4 factory 8rd mags and 2 factory 10rd mags and 12 5rd'ers I paid $150 for each factory 8 & 10 rd'ers and when she shot it she said " It feels just like the other gun (S-12) and kicks to hard" so sold everything off and got her a S-.410 and she loves it plus 10rd factory mag for the 410 are around $70 and they make a 30rd drum for it. Brad737 4
I think I'll pass on the .410. While I wouldn't want to get shot with one, I just don't think a .410 is effective enough as a defensive weapon. I got her a 20 gauge Mossberg 500 awhile back, and she shoots the hell out of it. I just love my S12 so much, I thought I'd get her a Saiga too, but one she can tolerate a little better.
csspecs 1,987
If she is cool with a 20 gauge pump gun. Odds are she will be fine with a saiga in the small chambering.
garandman 11
I love my Saiga 20. With the standard 12ga mods, it runs great. Academy Sports has a good selection of ammo. I'm 6'3" 250 lbs (not a lightweight) but to me 12ga is just unnecesarily brutal. Anyone who says 20 gauge isn't a legit self defense round is insane. gunfun 3,931
Another option is to tune an S12 to run 7/8 oz loads. you'd get a very slightly more even shot distribution for the same load.

The Saiga 12, when set up properly, will/can shoot softer than a 20 Gauge.

Just an FYI....the standard payload for a 12 guage was 1-1/4oz and 1oz for a 20ga (1970's).......of course these days, everyone has forgotten that and gleefully accepts wattered down shit ammo as the new standard. You can actually fire 1-1/8oz from a 2.75" 20ga shell, no problem.
gunfun 3,931
Good point. I was mostly offering another solution for a very low recoil option for the guy above's wife.

faststang90 18
the one i got from mississippi auto. the part that goes to release it from the gun broke. not sure if the part was the problem or if it was me. not going to bash them. most everything on my gun is from them. the other place has been very fast on getting the parts to me. MAAnew 162
If you contact Sanders Manufacturing at office@sandersmfgco.gccoxmail.com, they are normally excellent at getting any problem fixed. the one i got from mississippi auto. the part that goes to release it from the gun broke. not sure if the part was the problem or if it was me. not going to bash them. most everything on my gun is from them. the other place has been very fast on getting the parts to me. faststang90 18
im not sure if it was the part or me so i did not call and say any thing. i ordered other parts from mississippi and they have been great. so im not talking bad about them.
MAAnew 162
If it was the part, Sanders is great about warrantying their products. With their customer service, it would be worth trying to get a replacement. Sanders makes good magazines, but with any process you are going to have an occasional defect. im not sure if it was the part or me so i did not call and say any thing. i ordered other parts from mississippi and they have been great. so im not talking bad about them.
