help with IZ340 build

OK guys, I just ordered my Saiga IZ340 5.45 gun from atlantic

 

I dont want to wast time and money buying parts I dont need, but I have no idea about the conversion,

 

I would like to go with an Ironwood designs stock set. and I need to move the trigger forward,

 

I found this kit, is this what I need? I would like to add the bullet guide for piece of mind,

 

I read the conversion kit from Carolina Shoots supply is a good way to go,

they also have another kit with a different trigger guard???

other than the bolt and nut for the pistol grip and the screw for the stock is that all I need?

 

will the wood stock and handguards just fit right on without any parts?

either of those kits will work. if you take time to remove the current trigger guard off your rifle, it can easily be reused. the difference in those two you have listed is that one is much thicker material and doesnt require a pistol grip nut. if you wish to reuse your current TG, you will only need a pistol grip nut and screw. if you are going with ironwood designs or a timbersmith stock set, you wont need the additional pistol grip also.

thanks, for the response, I like the thicker trigger guard I listed, but I still dont understand what that screw is for???

the one in the backside of the TG? if so, that is for mounting a pistol grip. a longer screw can be used instead.

ahh, got it.

 

would you want the pistol grip bolted to the trigger guard? doesnt seem like that would be very sturdy vs bolting it to the receiver.

is this so you dont have to cut a square in the bottom of the receiver for the nut (thats how my Norinko AK-47 worked)

after looking at the pic, I guess you could run the bolt though the trigger guard, then through the receiver with a nut on the inside for a double nut type setup, should be good and strong.

there is already a hole in the receiver under the sporter plate. that set up is very secure. i use one of the triggerguards on my S12. the screws coming in from the top side will hold it very securely.

will I need a "AXIS PIN RETAINING PLATE FOR THE SAIGA RIFLES/AK 47" or can I use the one that comes with the gun, I put a Tapko G2 trigger in my other gun, and definitely want one in this one as well.

6. AXIS PIN RETAINING PLATE FOR THE SAIGA RIFLES/AK 47(for a G2 trigger, as it said it requires one, can I use my old one? I also want to make the nothch and use a double hook trigger but they are out of stock right now.

 

what else do I need?

is there anything above I really dont need?

In order of your post ...

 

1) You don't have the gun yet, you won't know if you will need flat or round till you get the gun.

 

2) You will need 10 of those drill bits if you try to drill out the trigger guard spot weld.

 

3) If it floats your boat ... go for it.

 

4) Nothing wrong with this, but you can reuse the existing trigger guard and have zero invested.

 

5) Hole plugs ... they work fine.

 

6) Good money spent.

 

Things you are missing ...

 

Trigger group! You will need a Tapco G2 trigger group (modified if you want the bolt hold open to remain or non-modified if you want BHO to go away ... as it should, IMO). You will also need the disconnector spring.

Most Saigas only take the single hook trigger. You can use a double hook if you cut a slot in the receiver or cut the hook you don't have a slot for. I think some people cut it and use it as a trigger stop.

wont my original trigger have the disconector spring? so I wont need to purchase another right?
