Hi all,

I sold a gun here recently, and we used Paypal for the transaction. The buyer listed the payment as being for the gun.

I received a nasty-gram from Paypal concerning this transaction! Apparently Paypal (or their lawyers) are anti-gun! Here is part of the message I received:

Under the Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal at its discretion, may not be used to send or receive payments for (this list includes but isn’t limited to) ammunition, firearms, certain firearm parts or accessories, or certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law. For a more complete list, please see our Help Centre on firearms and weapons.

If buying or selling something and using Paypal, I would recommend you do NOT mention in the title or description of the transaction that it is for anything gun-related! They have not stopped my account or anything, but obviously are monitoring for this!

When I drove a big truck and hauled any Government load, the Bill of Lading would just say "Freight of All Kinds" (even when it was clearly a generator!)

Works for me! ;)

"Services", is the answer to your question.

Paypal = Anti-gun is a very very unfortunate fact that is not really "THE NEWS"…

The antigun clause has been added to the policy a few years ago and they are now upholding it as "brand protection"...

Can you get around this policy by not specifying what the payment is for? Yes. But is it really worth it if the transaction does not go as smooth as you thought/hoped it would? No. And I would not recommend it...

I wish so much that PayPal would drop this "idiotic" policy, as I otherwise consider it the best and the most convenient online payment processor of all of them.

They're based in........wait for it......COMMIEFORNIA!!!

I've used it for several transactions, but with strict "gift" instructions. I've also bought gun parts off fleabay with it as well. Sellers get around fleabay with the "airsoft" tag. haha.gif

I thought everyone knew that! Only tards use gun words in pp transactions. Or someone trying to screw you in to losing your account!

My thoughts as well upon reading this thread.

I never use paypal because they are anti-gun.

They are liberal socialist that do not deserve my hard earned money.

Gun pal used to be an option, but I think that guy ended up stealing money from customers and is no longer in business. No guarantees when you mail order from any place, business or personal. In all of my transactions on forums, I have had only one experience not getting my goods, and I'm hoping that when his personal issues are resolved he'll take care of the issue.

Okay then, if Paypal is not a good way to get the payments through... What do you all recommend instead?

No need to insult my or my buyer's intelligence, just because we're new to this. dry.png

Some helpful advice would be much more appreciated.

I have used PayPal as well using gift option I would use it again I have used USPS mo and even personal check I prefer for my own stuff that I sell to receive USPS mo but imo the bottom line is as for a "safety net" buying anything online from an individual you are taking a chance of never seeing the item. Even from sights like eBay your taking a chance that's why feedback is important even on forums

Postal MO is the way to go. Cash it at the PO, they'll catch it if you manage to get a fake. That said, I've never had any problems doing business with the folks on this forum. With the occasional glaring exception, gun people tend to be honest.

interestingly though, ebay has started allowing more gun parts again. It used to be everything was allowed except for magazines over 10 shots and any part that would require FFL. Then they took it down to only parts not critical to operation along very arbitrary and inconsistent lines.

I bought a 10/22 barrel and spare FCG for next to nothing and was going to get a spare. a couple weeks later you couldn't buy barrels, magazines or trigger components there, or choke tubes. Now in the last few weeks I have seen each of those items for sale. There is hope for big business to see what their customers want.

Noticed that too, huh? I just scored some spare AR parts off fleabay, and looking at 1911 mags. One thing I LMAO at is the sellers that think their stuff is gold. One listing was for 3 "Colt 1911 Clone" mags, and the bidding went over $80 on them. When I blew up the pic, they are the same Korean knockoffs I've been getting at the shows for about $7 a mag.

FWIW Paypal will screw you if they can. I have had my paypal account frozen twice now. Once over a transaction they unilaterally determined was unusual. Luckily I got all my money out before they froze it...all but $220. Took a few weeks to undo their freeze each time. ...and those assholes are not the sharpest pencels in the box. I use USPS money order for gun stuff and paypal for non-gun stuff and I am just real careful.

FURNATURE. Every gun has some, and no one will question it. However I NEVER use PayPuke, as they somehow got my CC wrong, and trying to correct it I discovered that their customer service is 100% customer PROOF! I've been locked out for several years now and do not miss them at all.

I've heard from many others that sending the money as a "Gift" with Paypal removes any "safety net" that Paypal offers if the transaction doesn't go through.

FWIW...

Yes, but how much do you want to bet that the instant they found out it was for a gun related Item they would also void any protection? Another thing with the "gift" option is that the sender can reverse it and take the money back, at least I have read that.

I've had my account frozen 3 times during random transactions. I never could tell what for. They were straight forward, not iffy by any paypal policies or anything. I was the seller during one of those. I have a lot of good feedback.

I like ebay on the whole. Sure they've screwed me, but it really helps the marketplace as a whole. I think ebay singlehandedly transformed niche market sales and purchase from random luck to stable market rate. Buyers and sellers of obscure widgets have a lot better chance of finding eachother than in the days of nickel ads, estate sales, and garage finds. A lot of cool stuff that would go to scrap or trash finds people who are desperately trying to find it.

Paypal is straight up misleading with their buyer protection advertising though. The whole system is strongly biased at every step to stop claims and favor the seller. It is obvious from my dealings that the people who review claims only give a cursor glance before categorizing them and dropping them into the 'rejected' bucket. And when you get past all the hurdles and they validate your claim---- you only get your cash back if the seller hasn't withdrawn the funds yet. That's the 100% protection they brag about. So if a seller is the type to deliberately shaft you on delivery or description, what are the odds that he is going to let the funds sit in his paypal account for a few weeks?

how about you do all the above. Use paypal, don't mention it's for a gun. choose gift because it's cheaper that way, keep a copy of transaction emails and shipping documents and continue sticking it to the man considering you're giving them the finger everytime you use their system to buy a firearm :-)

I have bought oodles of gun parts with pay pal. Ive also sold a few things, and I have never had a problem.

So knowing they dont like guns, dont label your payment 'FOR GUNS'. Its just that easy. They dont give a shit what you buy, as long as you dont tell on yourself. They make their money and go by their socialist rules, just dont put yourself on the radar screen.

I see no problem with paypal, as long as you know their rules.

Gunfun: A couple thoughts. On one of my frozen transactions I sent 9k worth of Heuer watches I sold on ebay to a guy in japan. 4 watches on a single dash mount plaque. I transfered the money out as soon as it hit my paypal account because I had my account frozen once before. Then I cashed it out of my bank account as soon as it hit there. I left $120 and a deal cleared with a member of this board for another $100 so there was $220 in there. I didn't trust paypal and since they were my watches I figured I would do what I want with my money. Sure enough paypal froze my account with the $120. However as I saw it my deal was with a japanese buyer and I had sent the package usps global express with tracking and insurance. It was not paypal's deal to jump into. Furthermore in order to unfreeze my account I HAD TO PROVE WHERE i GOT THE WATCHES which was kind of weird in itself..in 2000 i found ebay and mini cooper rally stuff I had only seen in pictures I could own. and I had gotten the watces on ebay in about 2000...and this dispute was in the last two years. I told paypal I bought the watches on ebay and they had records...back to 2000. Soon after my account got unfroze but in all it was frustrating and took two weeks of my life.

And I have been on both sides of disputes with them ...buyer and seller and they side with whichever side they can get involved the least amount.

I do a lot of overseas deals for rare rally and mini cooper parts. Over the years I have done everything from wire transfers, western union, and cash to make a deal happen. Most overseas sellers don't take Postal money orders or certified checks anyway because they can't cash them. But these days everyone takes paypal. unfortunately it's a fact.... and you can cuss me for this one but I remember educating guys in the UK about paypal so I could get my deals done. But I don't trust them....
