Conversion pics - AK308 - Gun Porn - Pic Heavy

Recommended Posts

After 3 months of being obsessed with this conversion, I'm happy to post some pictures of it.

Idea was to take a 16" S308 and not go tacticool or long range, just straight AK.

Mississippi Auto Arms sold me the gun, it is an 09.

Ordered fire control group, muzzle brake, threading kit, gas tube, handguard retainer, and front sight block mod from Dinzag.

Bought a Krebs safety lever from the forum classifieds.

Ordered Ironwood Designs hardwood birch stock set with Yugo pistol grip.

AA-OK sold me the hardware for the stockset and a nice russian surplus sling.

Northridge came through with an East German windage adjustable rear sight.

Sent all of the metal parts off to Hoosier Gun Coat for Graphite Black Cerakote.

Finished the stock with Tung Oil under Garnett Shellac from shellac.net

Pictures sure don't do the wood justice, it is holographic.

All those photos need is a beautiful Russian girl holding it! Did you thread your muzzle to 17x1 or 5/8x24?

Both! I threaded to 17 x 1 and realized it wasn't straight. Then I used one of Dinzag's muzzle cutters to shave off the 17 x 1 threads and re-threaded with 5/8 x 24.

Thanks for all of the kind words.

That wood is amazing, it reminds me of the level of figure in some upper end guitars. That's always been a gripe of mine with wood on guns, you always see such nice woods used in other fields, while the scraps are used on guns.

I've always been paranoid of ordering any wood set for this reason. Plus, I'd end up terrified of damaging it.

It's a beautifully well made gun, as well as beautiful over all, very nice work.

Thanks!

I can tell you that Matt at Ironwood Designs is really making some great wood stocks.

I ordered the Hardwood Birch because I knew I would end up banging it around.

After I finished the build I took pictures quickly while it was pristine.

Then I went ahead and banged the front magazine catch into my forend so I could have the first ding out of the way.
