i have a friend who is going to help me with my conversion. But he says i should use screws to put everything back together. Wouldnt rivots be better and if we use screws what size should they be.. he also mentioned welding it.. So advise would be helpful

i would definately spot weld any screws to be permanently in place. rivets are a better way, but screws are real easy and dont require special tools to install. I would imagine the lessened surface area from screw threads might lighten the trigger pull, but not sure what the screw torque would do to counteract that.

that is better answered by those that did it each way. check the tutorials on the forum, i think parts lists are in them.

I welded everything that I could. Weld is nice, its permanant when you want it to be, and temporary when it has to be. I did not have the equipment or resorces to use rivets.

For instance, when you drill out the rivet heads on the pins that you remove, you will notice that you could possibly reuse one of thoes pins for reassembly if you weld the protruding end in place. And your triggerguard can be reused for the conversion as well.

I cut my triggerguard off at the front and tack welded it to the mag catch, instead of trying to screw in the end under the mag catch. It was 38 times easier and IMHO looks neater.

If for any reason I ever need to remove any welded pieces, I just have to drill them out again. Drilling through weld is not near as hard as drilling through rivets.

I think that anyone who has the resorces to rivet thier reciever should do so. I have heard a hundred times from builders that rivets are better, and the "right way" to secure a build.

I only welded because its what I had available to me, and what I felt comfortable with.

I hope this helps.
