Just recieved Legion IZL-447

saiga 12 gas system

Something I find troubling....you can't adjust the gas plug without removing the handguards.

Handguards are retained by a sloted screw.

Handguards completly block the gas plug.

More to come soon!

S-12 Taktika 040 is a good choice.

You have mod. 040-05 (SVD type handguard, wood parts, plastic - 040-06)

Removing handguard every cleaning of the gas system is a real problem, that is why I bought mod.040-02 (usual handguard)

All Taktika mods (in Russian only unfortunately):

I looked at Legion's site in USA http://legionusainc.com/

They sell very ugly modifications of Saiga

This is something that has caught my attention. I saw one of your recent conversion threads. It was an 030-1 job? I am in love with the idea of this variation of S12. Given your inherent experience doing these. I was thinking of buying one of the somewhat converted models from legion and doing the rest myself. As I saw you mention earlier, conversion of the typical IZ109. Was much more difficult.

If you had to start from square one. Are you of the opinion that one of these is the proper starting point?

I am undecided whether to pursue the 040 or 030 conversion. But if my desired finish product is one of these - would buying a typical S12 be foolish? I am handy, but do not own a machine shop.

What do I lose with these in comparison to a standard IZ109? Drums?

Worth it?

I just got mine in too. I recommend the Tac47 auto plug to solve your handguard issue.

I had the same problem but planed on using the auto plug anyway. Now I have no handguard issue and capabilities of an 030. Your S12 was my origional model I wanted to make, along with the 030, but has been impossible for someone with my skill set and lack of tools to do. UNTIL NOW011.gif

but is also somewhat standard in the US. Some of us want something different that not everyone already has, as is such the standard handguard.

This is true. It is a real problem which is easily solved with the tac 47 auto plug.

Also true but its the only way we can get Saiga 12s in the United States. I would rather have an ugly moded s12 then none at all.

  • 1 month later...

Ramlake,

I just sent mine off yesterday for assembly and noticed that the SVDs stock doesn't fit the trunnion 100%perfect leaving a 1/8" gap between the stock and receiver. Any thoughts on what the problem is or why it's not flush?

Thanks
