LeadMonkey 0
I've had my 7.62 saiga for a year now and I've been watching my gas piston stain more and more. I've used every gun cleaner possible and nothing helps in addition the finish is wearing out my bolt carrier. I doubt it will effect the gun's functionality but has anyone had this problem and has anyone found a solution? BTW I have also used metal polish.

lollygagger 1
Use of steel wool & solvent usually will get it off adequately. Lollygagger
k_dawg 0
I would advise against using steel wool for just about anything. Why? Small bits will almost always be left alone ( often small enough not to be seen ). but it'll be enough to start rusting.

And, the pistons are "stainless" -about the only AK part that ever was made of stainless. Lollygagger

You guys have observed some sort rusting up of firearms due to unseen residue left over from cleaning some parts with steel wool? O.K. Lollygagger (Thank God you never filed, ground, drilled or polished anything -there would have been nothing left!)
G O B 3,516
Not to hijack the thread, but try laquer thinner for removing the red or purple gunk from the primers of soviet block ammo-the shit that gets all in the firing pin. G O B

G O B <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, I starting to do that more & more. I just have to watch out for where I may have PAINTED something -least it become unpainted!
