That is exactly what the gunshop that sold me my saiga 12 said back in april of 2010, "better get it now, factorys closeing and there not gonna be around much longer." Bvamp 604
I mean, just think about that for a second or two....the Russians are gonna close the AK plant....how fuckin retarded is that? when that news was made public, it was already old, and already inaccurate. basically it was the govt. over there that came in, said "you're fired, you're fired, you're fired, and THIS is what the rest of you are going to goddamn do to fix the situation". this site also experienced a surge of hits from a certain IP within a certain city at that time, only viewing certain products and weapons....all of a sudden, we have those same weapons here in different form and such.
SgtRaven 531
Izhmash is out of bankruptcy and completed "restructuring". Russian Department of Defense is expected to shell out a big $$$ for 2XX-series, while still being skeptical of AK-12 as new "universal platform". New Izhmash boss is expecting as much as 50% of the revenues to come from US sales. They even reporting moderate sales to US Law Enforcement (maybe they mean "private security?). Kremlin and Red Square will be repainted into Barbie-pink before Izhmash will close. This is Russia; laws of business sense (especially in Defense Industry) does not apply (check "Lada" car factory history). Here are recently published pictures from Izhmash. SgtRaven 531
I need a volunteer to bump this thread once every 2-3 months... Thanks! You've got it, Brother! On the 19th of October, Russia will celebrate the Gunsmith’s Day for the first time. The holiday was established in the honor of the great contribution made by weapon developers to ensure security and independence of the country. When choosing the date preference was given to October 19, because on this day the Russian Orthodox Church venerates Archangel Mikhail who leads God’s armies. http://english.ruvr....s-best-weapons/ Another one: ] "Optimists these days learn English, pessimists learn Chinese, but realists learn how to operate an AK-47."[/b] http://www.spiegel.d...3915-druck.html Sales of Kalashnikovs have been rising in the United States in recent years. "No rifle in the world has been as reliable as this one," Josh Laura, a former Marine from Maryville, Tennessee, recently told the New York Times when explaining why he purchased an AK-47. SgtRaven 531
Russia Starts New Kalashnikov Trials http://en.ria.ru/mli.../177146369.html MOSCOW, November 2 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s central arms testing body started trials on Friday of the AK-12, the latest incarnation of the 65-year-old Kalashnikov assault rifle, its maker Izhmash said. The new weapon will be tested for its effectiveness when exposed to freezing cold, desert heat, humidity, dust and impacts. Izhmash’s chief designer, Vladimir Zlobin, had previously said state trials of the weapon would begin in 2013 and be complete by July that year. Serial production of the weapon is due to start by the end of 2013. Zlobin claims Russian armed units are interested in the weapon and also foreign customers. The company also plans to produce civilian derivatives of the rifle, as no large-scale sales are initially expected by military clients. Edited November 2, 2012 by Sgt. SgtRaven 531
Happy (belated) Birthday, Izhmash! Maker of AK-47 celebrates 205 years of triumph 31.10.2012 20:09 The Izhevsk Arms Factory (Izhmash) w as founded 205 years ago in the heart of the Udmurtia Republic. The factory became the main supplier of w eapons to the Russian army. The production of arms w as founded on the basis of the factory that w as producing metal spare parts. The first w ar, in w hich the products of Izhmash factory took part, w as the Patriotic War of 1812. The last w ar w as the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The idea to build a weapons factory belonged to Emperor Paul. The idea occurred to him seven years before the production w as founded in Izhevsk. The emperor entrusted all matters concerning the construction of the weapons factory to mining engineer Andrei Deryabin. It did not take Deryabin long to find the location for the new factory. Having found the Izhevsk ironw orks, (the name of the tow n originates from the Izh River), he pointed out such pluses as good water reserves for machines, forests for construction and the convenience of obtaining materials for weapons that w ere already developed at the metal-making factory. The engineer also noticed such peculiarities as open space for people to settle in the area. The emperor praised the initiative, and gave approval for the construction of the plant, which began in 1807. The construction gave a powerful impetus to the economic development of the region. Thousands of peasants from all surrounding villages w ere attracted to the production. They w ere to provide w workers with carts, horses and harness. Thus, thanks to Andrey Deryabin and his w weapons factory, the city on the Izh River began to develop very fast. The Izhevsk arms factory began to produce firearms and cold steel. Russia already had two such weapons factories at the moment when the new one w as opened: in Tula and Sestroretsk. How ever, the Izhevsk factory had a variety of production facilities. The production of weapons w as carried out in 14 stone buildings on one factory area. At the Tula factory, for example, there w as only machine work conducted in state-owned factories. The workers were doing all other works at home. The construction of more than a dozen productions, as w ell as the main building w ith a factory tow er w as conducted from 1811 to 1816. The works w ere not interrupted even during the Patriotic War in 1812, during w hich the plant had produced 2,000 rifles. Interestingly, the main building of the Izhevsk factory at that time w as considered one of the highest industrial buildings in the world. This is w here the majority of workers w ere concentrated. The workshop structure of the plant developed during the first years of its operation. In 1814, the plant produced 10,000 rifles and about 2,500 broadswords. However, the factory had reached its full production capacity only by 1830. The plant began to produce 25,000 silicon guns and 5000 broadswords a year. The Izhevsk arms factory became the leading enterprise in the field and w as able to reduce the cost of weapons 1.5 times compared to that in Tula. The factory founded by Andrei Deryabin made a priceless contribution to the national arms production, having unified rifle parts. SgtRaven 531
I poked around that site and it seems more like a rumor mill then a real news organization.. Are there any other reliable news sources to check? ...by our standards; I agree. I'm still digging, but nothing catastrophic is expected. Izhmash management is in hot water, since orders, production and wages went down rapidly. In October 200 workers staged protest after their salaries were (temporarily) cut by 2/3, attracting attention from District Prosecutor's office and Defense Department (Ministry), with ties high up into Kremlin. It's given that Izhmash in NOT going away, but some heads will roll. And as Agent Lemon described the classic scenario above: Russian military factory closing? Does not compute. Russia does not work that way. Its not the united estates. In a mean time, enjoy Izhmash virtual museum: http://www.priglyadi...196/tour/1.html Edited November 3, 2012 by Sgt. SgtRaven 531
AK-12 sent back for "correctional reworks" and following round of Russian Government tests, scheduled for mid-2013. Also, Izhmash and Izhmeh (another defense contractor) were proposed to look into conglomeration under the name of ..."Kalashnikov". General M.T.Kalashnikov already agreed to lend his name for proposed enterprise. And for entertainment purposes: Edited November 29, 2012 by Sgt. Raven
