Magazine Block Size for Hunting

How many inches long is the block off plate need to be for the 5 round izhmash mag? I want to use it for hunting but I don't know how long the block needs to be out of wood that I will make.

A one-by won't fit inside the spring. I made a block that fits inside the spring. It makes it easier to load the mag with the bolt closed.

Mine doesnt hang up and its easy to load on a closed bolt.

 

This is the only mag I load on a closed bolt.

I used three wooden cloths pins and electrical tape.

 

shaped like a triangle, no hang ups either,it fits inside the spring so there is no tension on the spring. It comes right out to make it a five shot again.

 

Last hunting season it worked 100%

Yep. Lots of ways to accomplish a simple task. Sounds like we need to start a photo contest for craziest thing successfully used as a mag plug during a hunt.

Yours is very similar to mine....but I used aluminum. Wood would have been easier.

Here's what I used guys, I went into Lowes and asked them for their bigger paint stirring stick. I cut it down to 3.25" and it works perfect for only holding 2 shells

I whittled mine from 1/4" plywood. I shaped it to fit between the vertical posts at the bottom, then almost as wide as the spring above that. Rounded off the edges so the spring wouldn't have anything to snag on. Loads just as easy as loading the first 2 rounds in any 5rd mag.

 

And it takes seconds to put it in or take it out.
