It's been replaced with polymer for a reason. Personally, I heat up my rifle, (a little painful to touch the brake, barrel, gas block, gas tube, rsb, etc), on the reg, due to rapid-fire. Polymer furniture holds up much better to this than wooden furniture does, (poly might slightly melt, while wood will smolder or outright burn). ymmv.. but I highly doubt it.
