.....Well, the barrel threading kit & cannon style muzzle brake is on the way....Now I'm looking for options on replacement forends....Not too sure I like the looks of the Galil type but, hey, functionality is the major priority  ..........Suggestions please...

You can buy one of the handguards like you suggested or you can buy a gas tube and retainer and modify the retainer and use any AK style foregrips you wish. like this:

On further reflection, I think I'll keep the stock forend.....

Would I run into any major snags if I were to drill some vent holes in the stock gas tube....Any suggestions= hole size, location, etc. would be greatly appreciated.........

That has been done, and works well... I have no idea what thread to look under, so I will just say that there are pics of guns here with holes drilled in the gas tubes.

If I were drilling, I would place the holes at the 10 and 2 positions to vent gasses upwards away from your hands as you hold it, however I forget how others have done it and for what reasons... IIRC I think I saw pics of them at both the 3 and 9 positions, as well as the 8 and 4 positions, too...OH...and only for the first inch to two inches closest to the gas block.

Hole size I would say in the 1/16th to 1/8th inch range... give or take a little bit... no real "perfect size" I dont think, other than not TOO BIG... or you wouldnt have enough gas pressure to cycle the action...

Mind you this is all my opinion... and take it for what its worth... others may be able to add more specifics to this... and if I have made any errors in my speak, PLEASE... correct me!!
