BrutalGardener 205
I was at a big, locally-owned gun store on Friday and saw them unpacking and putting locks on some neat-looking, compact, two trigger, double barrel, side-by-side shotguns. I liked the look of them and asked what they were. I was told that they were Russian Baikals! At that point, I just had to play with one. It was very light, compact, well-built and basic, with chrome-lined barrels and a rather pretty walnut stock. It seemed like a perfect, super simple 12 ga to complement to my S-12. Great SHTF/"Zombie Apocalypse" gun! I mean, with the chrome-lined barrels and the super simple, double-trigger action, there is very little to maintain or that can break on you. They also easily break down into two pieces, which fit into any backpack. These guns are kind expensive for what they are, but this (typically over-priced) store actually had them at some of the lowest Internet prices (without the shipping and transfer fee!) They were $279.99. I really wanted to get one right there and then, but they seemed kind of expensive and I am pretty low on funds right now. I did my research on when I got home on Friday night. Remington used to import these and sell them as the "Remington Spartan". Now, they are imported by a company called USSG and called the "MP220". That store also has the longer, fancier and much more expensive models with external triggers and chokes. The next day, I stopped by a big sports outfitter store in order to pick up some ammo and other small stuff. Out of curiosity, I asked to take a look at one of their Stoeger "Coach Guns". These are made in Turkey. The build quality was FAR worse than on those Russian Baikals at the local store and they were asking over $400 for them!!! The wood was shitty, the metal had a lot of noticeable little defects and the bores were not chrome-lined. I then realized that those Baikals really were a good deal and that I needed to have one. I drove to the local store, picked out the nicest looking Baikal coach gun that they had and bought it. I really shouldn't be spending money on more guns right now, but I just couldn't help myself. Can't resist the cheap Russian stuff! I really love it so far. Here's the gun porn (from undressing to the "cum shot" ): Edited May 13, 2012 by SpetsnazGRU

Baikal is one of IzhMash's sub-brands, just like Legion. Here's the official web site: http://imzcorp.com/e...pen/weapon.html They have a long history of manufacturing rugged, high quality sporting arms - mostly shotguns, 22 LR and air rifles. Their shotguns and "biathlon" rifles, have been imported by different US companies, on and off, over the years. They also used to import Baikal branded Makarovs back in the 90s. By the way, do you REALLY want to be shooting 3" shells out of this thing? That's just asking for punishment! Edited May 13, 2012 by SpetsnazGRU
corbin 621
I use a similar model (single trigger) for my Cowboy Action Shooting. Cleanup is a breeze, even with black powder loads,
patriot 7,197
Nice guns, but they kick like a bitch until you recut the forcing cones longer. I've got both a Bakal and a Stoeger. My Stoeger is ?15 yrs old and is far nicer than the Bakal was out of the box.
BrutalGardener 205
Nice guns, but they kick like a bitch until you recut the forcing cones longer. I've got both a Bakal and a Stoeger. My Stoeger is ?15 yrs old and is far nicer than the Bakal was out of the box. The action on this Baikal is very rough out-of-box, but it's already breaking-in and becoming smoother just from me playing with it a little bit. I was warned that it needs to be broken-in. However, there is a significant fit and finish difference between this weapon and the Turkish-made Stoegers which I played with at another store, and the difference is not in Stoeger's favor. It was almost like wood-furnished Saiga vs WASR. I can imagine that it kicks like a mule. I like my shoulder and already fitted a basic recoil pad. I don't really intent to shoot magnum loads out of it either. That's what my S-12 is for.
