RoughRider666 47
with the AES10-B's possibly drying up in the near furture, im forced to look into other options. I really want an RPK in the worst way! If you took the long barreled Vepr with the 23.5" Barrel as a starting point, what else would be needed to do to install the correct RKP bipod and carry handle? The stock im not worried about, as I was thinking about using the internal receiver block from ACE and mounting Magpul's PRS stock as it looks like a modernized version of the old soviet clubbed foot. handguards as I understand are standard AK/AKM so that isnt an issue. I can do most of the labor myself, but tracking down the right parts may be a chore. the million dollar question is.....IS THIS EVEN WORTH DOING?
draftpick 5
I think it is! One of the best quality AK's out there. Just got mine in today 7.62x39, 16 inch barrel. I really like that the muzzle is threaded and has a standard FSB with a detent pin and that the FSB is pinned on also. If the gas block was pinned instead of crimped you could easily mod any you want. A very nice and well built gun. Just have to decide what look I want.

WTF would they pin one and crimp the other?...then again, to convert to a correct RPK, I dont think i'd need to remove the gasblock as RPK didnt use accessory or bayonet lugs to my knowledge. The carry handle is my next concern though...im not really sure how thats mounted because ive never seen one in person...
Jaba1017 71
Russian RPK's don't have a carry handle. The Vepr is an RPK receiver so it makes sense to set it up as an RPK. Apex has RPK bipods. Several sites sell the furniture.

draftpick 5
Sorry those are not RPK's. They are belt feed RPD's. Shoot the same 7.62x39, but it's not an AK action/ rotating bolt. The front hand guard gives it away.

I have found a couple with handles, however the desgnation is questionable, one was and RPKS , and the other was a century arms build. If it is imported by Century it is definitely a Romanian product. RPKs has the RPK front end and the fireplace stoker wire folder on the back end. It's like the worst of both worlds. Got to be a Romanian variation.
