I was reading the "things you miss" topic and thought there are some things I enjoy having that did not exist a few years ago, like:

internet porn

gun forums where you can learn how to convert and trouble shoot guns

so what's on your progress list?

Instant coffee sure is a lot better these days! I don't buy coffee at starbucks or those type places, I make coffee flavored coffee at home in the morning. But....those little starbucks instant coffee packs actually taste like coffee! Great for camping.

Yeah, those little bastards are actually quite good! The instant VIA ones we're referring to here, right?

Yes indeed!

Oh, and I like having a small Walkman (showing my age) with digital tech. instead of the giant old cassette ones, or the Discman player. I have at least around 100 billion songs on my Walkman now-a-days!

online ammo purchases delivered to my door

And not having to wait weeks and weeks. I remember sending away for some Gi Joe stuff or lures from the Cabelas catalogue and it would take "4-6 weeks." Now if I order something and it doesn't ship tomorrow I'm like WTF.

i just like buying guns and related items over the net, and being able to communicate with others on this forum who have proved to be a wealth of information on many topics other than guns. knowledge and information on subjects im interested in is one thing that wasnt so easy to come by when i was growing up.

File sharing. Screw them! I bought downloaded It I own it! I can give it to whoever I want!

Fixed that for ya.

I too enjoy the benefits of technology, but I hope all of you that are so thankful for technology are prepared for the real possibility that it may all go away one day.

Agreed. Nothing like a simple power outage to set us back 70 years.

I am going say the smart phone. When I first got my iPhone a couple years ago, I thought to myself the power I had in my hands. The iPhone is the size of your wallet, but it is a more powerful cpu than what was on your desk 15 years ago. Hell the 3G and 4G networks have faster internet than the dialup I used to log into AOL back in the day, with the potential of being as fast as fiber optics. And nowadays you can face chat someone with it. Its straight out of a 1960s space movie.

smartphones that hook up to a kestrel via bluetooth to give you better ballistics calculations than you could do on your own.... instantly and during a rain storm! progress!

Damn, beat me to it!

VIA is an instant score. I am a bit of a coffee snob, so it's awesome to be out in the middle of the mountains hunting, hiking, etc. and be able to pull out my butane burner, steel mug, and enjoy a damn good cup of "fresh" coffee. A lot of times it tastes better than Starbuck's drip coffee, which I like a lot. It's sure better than drinking bottled up morning coffee from camp.

Cassette tapes, hands down. They are so superior to 8 tracks it ain't even funny. Strangely though, they're getting difficult to find. I guess everyone else is realizing how good they are and buying them all up. The price will probably go up next.

Online radio.. Beats paying for satellite or listening to radio with more than half being annoying ads.

And the throw away society is nice for those of us that are good at fixing things.

the only down side for online radio is that they don't broadcast any sports. WTF!

I would add that the price of music has gone down significantly since I was a teenager. CD's would cost $15-$18 in the mid 1990's. Now you can download an entire album for under $10 and our money is worth less than half of what it was back then.

TV shows on DVD have made those cliff-hanger dramas bearable so you just click a button for the next episode instead of waiting a week or until the next season starts.

I would add that our hobby has gained considerable acceptance over the past decade as more and more people realize that AK's and AR's are fun and practical recreational and self defense tools.
