22_Shooter 1,560
When I left NY, I donated my thumbhole stock that was on my S12 to fellow NY'er, seeing as how I wouldn't be needing it anymore. Once I got to SC, I cut the tang and installed the adapter that lets you mount ACE/Tromix stocks or a castle nut to mount AR stocks. So anyway, before I came back to NY, I had to remove the Magpul stock and PG that I had on it, since it's not legal in NY in that configuration. So now it sits with no PG and no stock. I know I'm fine in possessing it this way, but my question is............... Can I sell and ship it this way, with no stock on it? I'm thinking "yes", but I want to make sure. EDIT: I'm talking on a federal level. Edited June 13, 2012 by -Shooter-
haugpatr 972
I can't think of any reason why not. It is kind of like selling a barreled receiver.
BobAsh 582
Maybe a grey area. NFA handbook describes thusly: 2.1.2 Weapon made from a shotgun. A weapon made from a shotgun is a shotgun type weapon that has an overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less than 18 inches in length. But even with the tang cut flush, a 19" barreled S12 should still be over 26", no? Mine's still buried in stuff since I moved, so in the mean time, if anyone has a similar setup, I'd greatly appreciate a measurement.
Fallschirmjager667 729
not a gray area at all, with a 19" barrel and no tang the gun is easily over 26"
22_Shooter 1,560
not a gray area at all, with a 19" barrel and no tang the gun is easily over 26" OK, so back the original question....... There's not some weird law about selling a shotgun without a stock mounted, as long as it meets the 18"/26" requirements?
Spartacus 1,619
Does it still have that screw hole behind the pistol grip? Stick the the factory stock in there with a screw to hold it in. Then it's not stock-less. That's assuming you haven't welded/permanently installed the adapter. When I removed the stock before moving back here, I also tried removing the adapter. It didn't budge, and I didn't want to possibly strip the heads. I honestly can't remember if I put loctite on it, but I think I might have, since I didn't plan on moving back here. I guess I could always figure out some way to rig up a cheap stock to the adapter, just for the sale, if selling it stockless is going to be a problem.

master of the bush 17
You can sell and ship it that way...it's perfectly legal. The only thing wrong, in this picture, is that you moved back to a socialist shit hole. Better you than me. Edited June 14, 2012 by master of the bush

I'll rejoin the land of the free someday. ..............and I dug my S12 out, and measured it. A 19" barreled S12 with the tang removed and stock adapter installed is about 28-1/4", in case anyone else wanted to know.
Fallschirmjager667 729
by the way, what's all this bullshit about selling your saiga 12?
22_Shooter 1,560
by the way, what's all this bullshit about selling your saiga 12? I just never got into shooting it much. I guess I'm more of a rifle/pistol guy. I mean, I loved shooting it when I did actually shoot it, but that wasn't very often. I know a lot of people here consider their S12 as their "go to", and I absolutely understand why. But for me, it was just a range gun and novelty. On top of that, I don't want to bother with having to rig up a thumbhole (no PG's on semi-auto shotguns in NY ) to fit, now that there's a seemingly loctited stock adapter in place.
