my Saiga-308-01

i made the handguard from a lucky combo of machinery parts and stainless & aluminum tubing. the railed gas tube mounts at the lever-lock on the RSB, and to the set collar on the barrel. the forend also bolts to the receiver at the normal saiga spot.

nothing touches the barrel forward of the set collar, just ahead of the RSB.

that plus choate stock - the whole rifle feels very solid. LOP cut down to 12-1/2" - i am SHORT + jacket, backpack etc.

Front sight is made from the original sight base, TIG'd to a fitting & set-screwed to the gas block -I measured like 200 times. i'm sure ACE would be much better - will see how it all maintains zero with use.

needs better photos, scope and mount, muzzle treatment and a bunch of expensive mags....

it's by Choate - "Dragunov stock for stamped AKs/MAADIs" - i got it from ultimak and it's on their site.

it didn't fit up all the way at first and i had to remove some material in where the stock interfaces with the rear of the receiver in order to get it to square up at the pistol grip nut/no gaps etc.

not a fun job -but for all i know i bent the receiver out of square when i was stripping it down for conversion.

the stock isn't totally hollow, a little heavy but feels very strong and balances ok.

fits my medium-ish hands - i cut to 12-1/2" LOP - another story.

needs a comb riser for optics and all but i like the stock -not too much $$$$$ and comes w/ handguards and a good recoil pad.

i've heard its 922® implications are different, because the Version2s are imported w/ thumbhole stocks, but i don't know much about that and converted w/ US parts anyway so....

-any resemblance to Santa Claus is entirely coincidental
