pavasm 0
So glad I found this forum! Getting a saiga 7.62 and converting it was the perfect choice for me. I was thinking about a WASR, but I feel much better getting the russian rifle and converting it myself. I got the kit from CSS and did a quick and dirty conversion before I took it to the range for the first time. I didn't do a bullet guide, I think I will stick to surefire mags for the time being. I need to use US magazines for compliance parts when I put bulgarian furniture on it. Anyway, just wanted to post thanks for all the resources available here.

Installing a BG (bullet guide) is kind of dumb for .223, as you'd have to mod magazines to fit anyway (except Tapco Galil mags). SGM mags work great and there's no reason to to install a bg (unless those start to fail you). I have a bg waiting to be installed, but it will probably wait forever, as my SGM's are working just fine! YMMV, but I don't see the point in intstalling a bg, modding mags, etc, when you can just use SGM's (which have an EXCELLENT rep) that work. Comes down to this" SGM's @ $30 a pop, or use Galil/ Circle 10, etc mags WITH bg mod, AND mag (each one) mod/fit. Why?? What's the benifit of using a bg and modding EACH and EVERY mag to work when there are already mags that work with NO mods?? For an AK x39.. SURE.. that way you can use surplus mags... but for a 5.56/223?? NOPE. Not worth it. Just MHO. Great choice with the SGM's!
pavasm 0
I didnt realize tapco mags were that inexpensive (I guess I assumed only surplus mags were <$25). have folks found them to be reliable?

Diehards dont like them for lack of reinforcement in the lips.
