SAIGA12nut 0
Hello everyone. I recently obtained a new SAIGA RPK Clone (THANKS HUGEGATOR!) and the only thing I dislike about the gun is there are no threads on the end of the barrel. Now seeing as I couldnt fit a 14x1 or 24x1.5 tap and die around the end, what are my options? I remember hugegator telling me the "jerry-rigged" version of getting to the actual barrel for threading, but I need something very in depth. I already have experience in threading barrels (have threaded three barrels to 14x1), so I know how its done, just dont know how to get down to the barrel on the SAIGA 7.62 (RPK Clone). Any advice is greatly appreicated. Thanks! Edited October 1, 2005 by SAIGA12nut
pistonring8 1
Theres a "how to" somewhere on here that I did with pics. I used a dremmel and a berring seperator. Stokstad had an even better post where he used a small tubing cutter outfitted with a blade for cutting stainless steel. It came out very nice. Can somebody link to these posts for Mr. Nut please? Cobra 76 two 2,677
If you go with the 14x1 LH thread you can use most any AK brake and it will work. Don't pay any attention to what that guy said about it ruining your die. if you go slow and use plenty of oil it will cut it like butter. I have used a die that has already threaded at least half a dozen barrels by two other members here before I got it and I have threaded 3 barrels so far with no problems. The tubing cutter will work fine to cut the fsb sleeve but you won't be able to get all the way up to the sight block like it's supposed to be.
