Hey... Looking for a reasonable tactical vest to use at the range. I have my eyes on a leapers UTG tactical vest that has pretty high reviews on the web. Anyone own one or know of a comparable one thats around the 60$ range? Again, its just for range shooting to hold 30 rd. ak mags and a .40 cal pistol w/ mags. Thanks.

I have one just like that one that I used for airsoft (yeah, yeah, it was fun, I don't care what anyone says, lol), it works pretty well, each mag pouch will hold two 30 round AK mags, or an S-12 mag (really tight fit on SGMs though)

the UTG will do just fine looking fancy at the range. other than that, it's more suited for airsoft or hollywood.

get yourself a vest that will last you a lifetime and won't wear out after a weekend of working for a living.

but, if you just want to look cool and get pissed off at terrible ergonomics, shitty stitches and lame ass chinese shit, go for the UTG.

+1. Just like optics and firearm parts, you get what you pay for.

Yeah i understand the made in USA quality thing but im not an operator nor am I going to "the sand box" to kill tangos. With that being said, my revised question is: will chinese "shit" work for a once a month shoot at the range holding american & euro 30 rd. AK mags and my H&K USP .40? So far the best tac vest that's US made and reasonable seems to be the strikehard one, (thanks for that). With quality being the highest factor it seems like the practical choice, i.e. strikehard. I'm still undecided so I'll welcome anymore input. Thanks again.

You must buy the most high quality, high speed, low drag, USA made, battle proven, bullet proof, tactical vest that money can buy!!

Anything else is less than acceptable and will fail will when your life depends on it!!!! rolleyes.gif

Sure cheap chinese shit will work for once a month range trips. You get what you pay for, if thats all you want it for then you dont need to buy combat proven gear.

Personally I dont see the point, when I go shooting I just lay my mags and guns out and shoot em. If I was doing any serious training that required a tac vest to hold mags and a side arm I would buy quality gear. I say skip the shitty UTG vest and avoid looking like a mall ninja or buy a real vest and do real training that actually requires the vest.

F*ck I guess I hit a nerve amongst our forum members. Maybe I'll just take the above advice and say "f*ck it". I guess having a tac vest seemed "handy". Thanks anyway everyone. I'll bow my humble inexperienced head and back up.

And just like both of those, you can still get a pretty good product fairly cheap.

I think this is the case with this vest, and alot of the stuff that I've gotten from UTG/Leapers, of course it's not the best, but it tends to get the job done.

Don't know whats got you so worked up... You posted a question, got various responses and even one that helped you find the right vest. Drop the self-loathing and buck up.

BTW, you can say fuck, it doesn't offend anyone (anyone important, anyway).

Dont take it personal, its the same story with every post asking for recommendations on gear or guns.

I wish I could afford nothing but the best with everything I buy but Im POOR so I buy quality guns and optics, everything else is subject to budget constraints!biggrin.png This is one reason I dont have a vest, I dont want a cheap one and I dont need a good one!!!

One thing to consider though is while a cheap vest will do fine for range fun, it probably wont LAST. So you may be paying for a nice vest once you replace the cheap one a couple times.

If you want to go a much cheaper route and are up for a project then grab one of the Chinese AK chest rigs and replace the stracks and buckles with new modern ones. It simple and works much better than a lot of the bulky chest rigs I've messed with.

Linky please? Thanks.

I got the UTG Molle vest. I like it and no issues yet. I did add some webing though, high spots. For what little I do, its fine. I don't wear to the range. Its silly if you're just shooting and not training and many ranges don't allow anything more than shooting. For drills etc, I work out in our woods.

My thought is, Get what you can afford, upgrade as needed/affordable. You try a lot of ahit before you're really happy. Unless you can suck it up with any ol shit. Then buy surplus.

Dmitri @ Soviet Propaganda is an honest man,

http://www.soviet-propaganda.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3_47&products_id=74

and this vest is just too sweet to pass up.

It is designed so that you can put up to 12 mags in it. The description says 8, but I know for a fact that its made to take up to 12 if you take the noize stopping middle inserts out and put the mags sideways.

It also keeps the mags away from your front so that you can crawl and stuff with it on.

I also have one of these-

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/2238331409/blackhawk-chest-rig-holds-8-ak-47-30-round-magazines-nylon

Its okay but not nearly as comfortable, especially when wearing on top of a vest.

I see there are some skeptics here that may not agree with my stance on avoiding china. One thing to consider in your purchases is..

The environment.... Your fucking landfill is full of cheap chinese shit that broke.

The economy... Your fucking friends are starving and can't find work.

Your ass... If you really use your shit, it can't break.

Your family... The money you purchase CHINA made shit is converted into bullets that will skull fuck your grand kids some day.

Your math skills... Wait and buy a quality product that will last you as long as needed and may even be able to recover some of the initial investment if sold. Or, buy three chink made products over a period of time, never knowing how quality gear helps your performance. In the end, you still have a chink piece of shit that fell apart.

The russian shit is good. About the same as a US made rig that will put it to shame. Lots of Russian shit is contracted out to the Chinks.

The russian shit is badass. More than I want to spend though. I'm pretty much set on the strikehard AK chest rig. Dude's a vet and its made here at home.

I do however have a question for anyone able to answer it: Does the US advanced load-bearing vest hold ak mags? And, does it fit well? My buddy is in the Army and is willing to throw a few my way cheap but I heard ak mags are tight to non-fitting.

Thanks.

strikehard gear has one that i bought and i love it. I dont remember the price but it was around 70

+1

Strikehardgear makes some quality rigs. I liked my AK rig so much that I had Todd make a custom S12 rig for me. It holds one MD 20 and three 8 - 10 round mags. I love it! He'll make any drum / mag combo that you want.
