TheDarkHorse 216
If there were no option to convert a Saiga.......if you were stuck with the sporting configuration......higher capacity magazines did not exist.......and they were priced in the $300-$500 range.......would you still buy a Saiga?? chicagosfinest 26
In what caliber..but most likley no way..looks like the ak's retarded cousin.
Ronin38 2,117
Well, my S-12 worked perfectly right outta the box, so I'd say "Yes." I'd also be quite happy if they were only $300-$500, too!
poolingmyignorance 2,191
The 308 would have a place.
G O B 3,516
I did. There was no after market like we have today when I bought mine.
thebuns1 4,323
i would. its still an AK, and its still russian. even without the evil features, the reliability is there, as well as the history. people still buy bolt guns, muzzle loaders and black powder pistols. as well as pump action shotties and lever guns, and revolvers. even though there are very limited options in comparison to that of saigas and AR15's and other semi autos, but they still sell pretty good.
KennyFSU 249
Would buy it 10x over again. Love this platform.
YOT 3,743
Like Ronin said, yes. Especially the way the prices for other AKs are.
gunfun 3,931
S12? For sure. Maybe not if I could choose a factory Adkal vs sporterized S12 with only 5 rounders. Other calibers depend on cost. There are plenty of other decent semi auto rifles with controls and features I like better, like stainless. The AK is attractive because of it's whole package of interchangable components. If I am not allowed to lay it out like I want it, I may as well buy something else that is in the right shape. However, saiga 7.62 vs SKS, I would rather have the saiga, if the money is close. in .223? No, there are other guns in the $400 range that have a lot more appeal to me. .308? dunno, maybe, that seems like a reasonable price and solid layout. I could see that being a hunting rifle if I were doing the big game thing. There are bolt guns that cost similar, and I would rather have the .308 saiga.

ironhead7544 35
A stock Saiga still makes a good little carbine even if limited to 10 shots. Rugged and reliable, can be used for hunting and self defense.
Dad2142Dad 6,559
Yes
bernerz 11
When I bought mine, most of the options we have now didn't exist. Granted that the total cost for both was less than 500 all totaled up. Still believe I would have done it again. Regardless of how they are dressed up, the basic premise remains the same, tough, dead-nuts reliable semi-automatic requiring very little maintenance to remain that way.

TheDarkHorse 216
I own two converted Saigas and four sporting Saigas. I actually like the sporting configuration. Like it was said previously, they are great carbines based on the worlds most reliable platform.
tokinshitload 12
NO. Might as well have an SKS.
Deadeye 325
yea i would im kinda addicted
rnemhrd 165
yup I had a Rem. 1187 other than being rifled I would rather carry the S12 unconverted in the snow and know it would'nt jam. Much lighter too. Do the trigger mod and get rid of that 2 stage crap and they are not bad at all. Just like a G2 Edited January 8, 2013 by rnemhrd
Vance665 225
I don't think I would.
dmckean44 1
Yes, I bought them with no intention of converting them. I might convert them someday now though.
TigerMoses 31
The ones that came with the wood furniture, how I got my 308, were pretty nice looking. Wish it had been $500
macbeau 902
The S-308, Yes - Definately!. There were no high capacity mags available when I bought mine and none on the horizon in '04. It also has the "least sucky" factory trigger of all the Saigas. I can't think of another / comparible .308 semiauto in the same league as far as cost / weight / length. Light and handy and factory mags are easily converted from 8 to 10 rounders. As for all the others? It would largely depend on what the available alternatives were. I'll go with "maybe" there. semper299 284
Yes. In any caliber.

Bigtwin 219
I would and did, with no intention of converting. I was very happy with it for close to two years.....then I converted!
JoeAK 337
I would, looking at my pre-conversion pics, it looks and felt alot like an M14 to me, and at 1/3 the price.
