storm6490 2,768
I had a box of them as a kid. They were very old. I'd treat it as any other hull. Total waste of brass but looks pretty cool. Not even sure that it would be that big of an advantage. Maybe even a disadvantage. Have a link to the new ones?
AJ Dual 43
Yes, Magtech sells them. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/25-rds-magtech-loadable-brass-shotshells-12-ga.aspx?a=518023 If I could find FMJ or JHP 12ga full diameter slugs for them, I'd like to whip up some "Vera rounds" for my Saiga. corbin 621
I've used them in Cowboy Action Shooting using a double barrel. I wouldn't recommend them in a semi auto. Too easy to dent.
Groovy Mike 36
They date back to the 1800s, but they do make new ones. In fact I have a box on the shelf that take either rifle or pistol primers instead of 209s. The advantage in using them today is that teh all brass hulls can be reloaded several hundred times - long after your plastic hulls wear out.
Squishy 1,149
Make for an impressive mag dump at the indoor range with these boys bouncing off the concrete floor...the inevitable question could be answered "These are scaled down versions of the shell Optimus Prime used in his pump Punt Gun in The Dark Of The Moon..." gunfun 3,931
Don't you need special sizing dies and some kind of wad to seal the end?
Castalia 19
Loading dies are available from RCBS. Part# 99060. Casting molds for slugs are available from Lyman. Part# 2654012 Loading Data for slugs and shot are in the Lyman shotshell reloading manual. 11 ga. cardboard and fiber wads for use in 12 ga. brass shells are available from Circle Fly Wads. Good luck with your quest, Castalia Edited September 14, 2012 by Castalia
Squishy 1,149
There's a vid on MidwayUSA.com showing how to load 10 gauge. He's reloading old brass shells so some have to be resized to fit in his side by side. Edited September 14, 2012 by Squishy
Eric Pate 478
Functional purpose: Brass shells would avoid the S12's problem with top-round-deformation when leaving a full mag loaded against a closed bolt. .
Groovy Mike 36
You guys are making me want to run a mag full through my saiga!
