Install round trunion feed ramp and still use the factory or SGM mags?

Would love for my Saiga 7.62x39 to be able to use the factory mags and the SGM mags I've bought along with standard AK mags. Considering buying and installing the feed ramp to be able to do so. Mine is a round trunion . I've already done the trigger and pistol grip conversion. Does anyone have any experience with using the factory and SGM mags AFTER installing the feed ramp? And.......if I have to file down the mag catch to use the steel AK mags, will the factory and SGM mags still latch up tight?

You can modify them, but you would be better off selling the SGM anf buying new mags.

Standard AK mags are less then half the price of the SGM's. Tapco sells 10, 20, & 30 round mags for aroumd $15.

If you already have the SGM mags and like the BHO feature, you can easily modify them to work by comparing them to regular AK ,mags and removing ther built in bullet guide. However, once you modify them, they are only good for use in a rifle witrh a bullet guide.

 

Otherwise, sell them as Jetmech suggests and buy regular AK mags.

I dremeled off a little bit of the lip on my factory 10 rounder for bench rest shooting and it works 100%.

I was kinda worried about sanding/filing/dremeling that bump on the factory or SGM mags. Didn't know if they might be hollow or not!

They are not hollow. They grind/file off just fine. I have done a number of these and they function fine. I have not had any issues. Just make sure you take your time and remove enough but not too much.

Like the others have done I modified my factory 10rd magazine to work with a bullet guide. I just used a Tapco magazine for reference while using a dremel to grind the proper cuts.
