ran across this in my........

it's a FAL all right, in that "dress" it was nicknamed the "congo FAL".

like all FALs post 89, it's a parts kit gun, I would have the headspace checked. a lot of folks built these because it's not all that complicated to build, the big thing is if they put the correct size locking shoulder in for headspace

value, 1k is too much IMO, what is killing the value for .308 rifles is the price of ammo. back in the day FALs were all the rage, mostly because 1) parts kit were dirt cheap and 2) surplus ,308 ammo was dirt cheap. now, with .308 ammo going for 70+ cents a round, I wouldn't offer more then 600 bucks for it, but that is me.

also make sure the receiver isn't aluminum. a 07 manufacturer by the name of Williams came up with a aluminum FAL receiver, to try to lighten the rifle, needless to say aluminum doesn't hold up very well to the pressure of a .308, and it blows up. they use to call them "alum-bombs".

and before anyone says AR receivers are aluminum, the FAL and AR have 2 totally different ways of containing the pressure.

thanks guys for the info. i think the ole boy got hosed on it and just trying to get some of his $$ back. had a cetme (one of the good ones, no headspace or roller bearing issues) yrs ago but the rising cost of .308 moved it on down the road too. that thing was a hoot to shoot, chucked brass into a unknown dimension and loud as hell but had very little recoil......shock absorbing stock. real neat set up.
